This one was taken in the dry spell.. it DID rain (and its holding up the concrete) but by that time they were all inside the Chonburi Hilton cooking up another batch of frog casserole

If only it was mine to do something with, Norton... from telling us we could take the trees down, Lady Mango then got her friend nearby to come and do it..and take away anything remotely usable.

Can we do anything with mango tree leaves!?

does it? I would have guessed it may be too resinous. Mind you, I have seen the wood, sold in Indian shops for sacred fires and it didn't seem resinous, so yeah, I suppose it would be good wood.

We use fruit wood for smoking meats.

I have an idea when the place is all built to be sitting around a fire-pit enjoying the flickering flames and the smell of wood smoke. Crazy, eh? Thailand is far too hot, i must be mad, etc etc... but I think back to home in UK with winter log fires and falling asleep in front of them!! beach fires when we were camping in Salalah, Oman. Theres something about a real fire....

I miss that ....and no chance in Downtown Dubai!

Ok.. some way off still but, if I can, I will.

I will take a look at the link. and...feel free to interrupt the thread any time. My thread is about us all chatting together, about the build or some connected stuff too. Why not? im not rigid and no parameters unless its totally left field!!! hopefully the chat can help others along the way...

yeah.. love that first one David, tho maybe not so grand... when i am with her folks we often sit 'outside' for 2-3 hours. Mosquito's are everywhere... cant deny that, I don't seem to get bitten as much as when I first went there. sprays, incense burners etc. i figured that same wood smoke might keep them at bay....

You know the expensive citronella candles they sell for mozzie repelant? Well guess what citronella is...Thailand's very own lemon grass. Easy to grow, and cheap to buy. So I daresay some takraai bunches thrown on the fire would be effective too. Just guessing.

great Maanaam... with sage, rosemary and lemongrass on the wood... time for a slab of lamb too.. nice leg joint of some ribs, BBQ style!! with that, a couple of bug zappers and my beers, i reckon i could while away a few evenings relaxing, eating n drinking. even PJ likes lamb...... after a few years of saying she didn't... she was talking about goat..lol

hi Maanaam, K.Pot..hes an qualified engineer, and he runs a proper building company. Got ALL the kit, he's doing it full time, his crew has worked with him a long time, reasonable rates and as you say, so far its going to plan.

After selecting him, we had two sit-down sessions to go over requirements, and finalise the contract (the one I showed on this thread, earlier.

I think all that pre-build effort is really worth it; of course everyone is excited and wants to get 'building' but this agreement stage IS v important. Everyone's agreed, everyone knows whats required, everyone's signed up for it. yes...the contract was a bit long but some of the detail was essential, he saw it and hes complying. The good thing about that was... hes could see why it was being asked for and mostly, it was stuff he would do anyway.

Hopefully, he will keep it up til the end.. Lets see...
