    thanks, Birding.

Interesting read, and I'm in with eyes wide open:

    1. no children between us (nor will there be),so no hold over me, and no abductions coming my way.
    2. land is in her name but the 30-yr lease is 100% in mine, plus there is a pre-nup
    3. house, when built will by 100% in my name.
    4. we have PURPOSELY purchased the land well away from the 'family' - she is more sick of them than i will ever be!! She has fallen out with just about all of them
, and wants a quiet life with me. you can be sure that none of them will be living with us, even visits will not be too often as its a long way for those not disposed to that kind of travel and in any case, they only have one car between them!!

Of course you are right what you say and we must all take care, and not over expose ourselves for whatever reason

quick question... what is the 'TD gallery'?

Is it another location on the site where you upload all your pics, and then draw them down as you include them in the posts?

That could get to be a big upload? i might have 1000's, especially if i start uploading Princess Joys swimwear collection.

ahh wait... she just told me , no problem, apparently i do look quite good in all of it.

im guessing that i cant just 'simply' upload a photo from my hard drive as there has to be a link to a permanent location somewhere? most of my pix are on portable HDD's which move about tween pc's

is that why some of you use the 'Photobucket option?

TD Gallery kinda sucks because your pics have a maximum size. A lot of the time you have to re-size shit just to upload them.

Imgur is what I recommend. No resizing.

Is there not a tutorial on how to use these 3rd party hosting sites for newbies?

    Like a sticky somewhere?

Its piss easy to setup and upload but there is a slight learning curve to posting the pics here so they imbed into the thread and nobody has to click anything.

DONT FORGET TO SET YOUR ALBUMS/ACCOUNT TO "HIDDEN"

If you don't, when you post pics people are basically linked back to your account and can see ALL your pics. If you hide your account, then all they can see is the pic you linked.

Ok... i created the pages in Imgur - seems very straight forward, and i immediately and easily uploaded 1 photo.

If I read this all correctly, all i need to do is embed the URL of the photo on my post, and it should find the photo and insert it in the right place?

So...I will try it tomorrow, when i upload the next bit of background - all about me n' she!!!

May I ask how old your wife is and has she any children that you know of?

    • plus there is a pre-nup
Is that Thai prenup both valid and legally binding?

A Thai prenuptial agreement is an agreement concerning of the assets between a husband and a wife. You must follow Thai law in order to have a valid. Remember that the main purpose it protect your assets with this contract.
A valid and enforceable Thai prenuptial agreement requires by Law that:
    • It needs to be in writing on the same date of marriage registration, or;
    • It has to be a written agreement signed by both parties.
    • Two witnesses are required.
    • The agreement should be attached with the marriage certificate where the marriage is registered.

What is the type of land title?

Has the Usufruct been registered in the Land Department of Thailand where the title to the property is located?

Has the Usufruct a monetary value? If so, has the appropriate tax been paid on it?

Do you know that, under Thai Law all agreements made between spouses can be cancelled by the Court at the request of one party, unless agreements affect third parties and that legal opinion is divided on whether that premise affects a valid Usufruct.

OK... thanks for the posting and all good to x-check it all.

hopefully not get too bogged down this!!

she has 2 children and i know all about them
shes old enough to be sure she does not want any more!!
    pre-nup is as you described
land title Chanote of course, fully detailed. my name is on it re the lease
we can own property, right? just cant own land
there is a defined 'rental for the land lease, and i have the records of paying it and she recieving it.
all other paperwork, taxes etc fully paid up.

Of course you are right, the law can change... anywhere. we are all at the mercy of the lawmakers, whichever country we choose to settle in. Do you know how one sided UK law is when divorce is 'in the air'? i favour my chances in LoS more than Uk!!! At some point, we have to 'take that chance' or go with our feelings, our gut feeling on the situation. i never want to be a person who is too scared to go out of the front door, in case 'something happens'.

I am a reasonable judge of a person, she and I have been together for 5 years, living in BKK, she's currently here with me in the Middle East, and everything is very fine right now. we get on brilliantly. Unlike some others i have met, she is , really straight down the line, not devious in any way. she herself despises that type of person. she is much more about looking after us, not defending thais against me. ok ok i see those rolling eyes again(!!) but as stated previously, im confident for now and the future.

I know and have read about some well-publicised horror stories, but those stories always grab the headlines, don't they? What about all the 1000's of relationships that do not end up like that? We all know, good news does not sell papers or make headlines, but nevertheless there IS a lot of good news in Thailand. after all, if it was ALL terrible, no good, a con, etc etc... probably none of us would come here.

So... thats where im up to, as i guess are a lot of others who have made the decision to make a life in LoS. if it really did go 'tits up', it would be a wrench but it would not break me. Hey!!... lets be positive!!! its not going to!!.

I thank you, and... i will be sure to keep my eyes open if any negative developments come to pass..

maaan... this is one big post!

Sounds you have things covered so as this is a construction thread let's get the show on the road.

About how many m2 do you expect?
What sort of water, sewage, electrical and communication infrastructure available in the village?

ok i will come back to the image - more work / reading needed

[LIST][*]water is available[*]electricity is available[*]i will be doing rainwater harvesting[*]not convinced on the solar heating / power just yet and im not keen on my lovely traditional roof being covered in panels - spoils the look![*]sewage via septic tank, drain field arrangement.grey water will have a separate drain line and meet up later in the circuit. [*]comms the only thing i have not fully checked yet, but i have a plan B if its not in place on day 1
The first stage is a footprint of 6m x 20m, which represents the by far the largest piece. This will give large kitchen, office, dining room (will be living room until the other sections complete), stairs, WC, master bedroom suite, buddha room and one more bedroom with ensuite, and a further WC.

yeahyeah... i know its large but as i said at the start, this is long term. i have been without a place to call 'home' for 11 years, (I'm not counting those apartments kindly provided by the employers along the way)

sorry, i was not 100% clear - 240 for part 1, 42 for part 2 (the middle piece) with some open verandah, but beneath that is an open but roofed area 10 x 8, and part 3 is 13 x 4 (x2)

its a three building arrangement, yes similar to your photo.

we are keen to get stage 1 completed asap so we can live in while the rest gets done.
