    Hi CJ... happy weekend!

Yeah... there is a Chanote for both the plots of land we have. My name is on both for the lease agreement so, as secure as it can be.

The only thing left to do with regards to the land is to try to acquire the plot next to our smaller plot. There is a mango tree plot on one side and we are trying to trace the owner, and an open plot to the other side. not the end of the world if we get neither but would enhance our situation if we did.

Wasp flies around the Construction Forum and he has, in the past, bought together many of the projects built and recorded her on the Teak Door.

Almost, and not in a derogatory way, a Coffee Table book type thread.

Good to have a flick through.

Hi David, hope you're having a good weekend and thanks for that clarification!

I have already been through Wasp's photo collection of builds - very interesting, and what a diverse set of styles, colours, sizes, etc, and was also grateful of the time he took to assemble it. good work.

There was another good one I read through featuring a collection of entrance doors and that one I will be referring to when we put our entrance door in the wall.

Some really good content in the threads on TD.

    Right...!!

...about a week to go until Princess Joy 'n' me go back to Thailand, thats after I have a stressful few days back in dear ol' UK.

We have a first-day-back visit with the Orbortor already lined up to amend the building permit, and then we will be straight into the land raising, as discussed here already.

I'm going with the suggestion of pushing the good soil from the build area into the garden area, and then building up the build area with the fill material - that seems like a good idea.

We are also (when I say 'we' of course I mean she) meeting up with 2 potential building team leaders to discuss 'stage 1' of the build. I don't want them to see the whole build at one time or they might get crazy ideas about getting rich! lol... drip feed the info, need to know basis, etc.

Good news that no one on the forum has any other questions up to now - makes me think that maybe I have covered everything up to date pretty well.

Thanks to everyone who visited, commented and suggested thus far - I really appreciate it all.

Pictures of the coming land raising to come shortly.

    Cheers!

A usual practice in Thailand is to dig a pond (if you have a large plot enough) that later will be used for fish (or swimming pool) and rise the building area on the level of the road (more or less) to be sure than no flood water will reach your house.

hi Klondyke.. yeah, if my wife had her way it would ALL be pond!

The plot is not big enough for it anyway so thats not an option, however... later... there may well be a swimming pool so there's some free 'raising dirt' right there.

how I see it going is...

    1. push the good soil into the area where the garden will be.
    2. raise up the house built area using the imported fill.
    3. let it settle and start the build.
    4. we will get a better idea of levels and material needed later down the line.

I will keep one area in the bottom corner where the drain field will be and thats where the 'swimming pool dig' material can go

Meanwhile, we will pursue the purchase of the adjoining plot more vigorously during my time back in Chonburi, later this month, to give us more space and options

Humm ... looks like a little popular culture remix might be in order.

The music ... the rhythm of the lyrics ...

    Then Rabbit 'blows' ...

To 'blow' is to sing, to express, sometimes rap.

Don't focus on the 'blow' ... focus on the seizing the opportunities as they present themselves ... don't choke.

Maybe grab that movie ... 8 mile, if you haven't seen it before.

    progress...at last!

Greeting one and all from sunny Thailand.. wait a minute... most of you are here already, right!?

and... its not so sunny in some parts.

so.. I came on a mission, and I'm glad to report that on all fronts Princess Joy 'n' me were in the main successful.

As most of you know, the No. 1 activity was the land raising, before those summer rains arrived.

We were straight over to Chonburi the morning after we got back to BKK... but the delivery was not ready (they were on another job, trying to beat the rain, which had already started in the area)! We did a bit of glad handing with the OrBorTor and Co., and fixed the plans to include this new 'level'. The engineer paid a visit to the site, and we were generally in agreement that...as long as it did not rain tween now n tomorrow, they would start the soil deliveries!

did we ever pray for NO rain!!

we rang first thing next morning, yes!! no rain.. the deliveries were starting at 0830. apparently the OrborTor had pulled the crew off the first job to get us under way... definitely pays to keep in with him! By the time we got there from Bangkok, they had so-say 'done' 11 loads, but me n my sharp eyes + m3 visualisations quickly realised that this was bullshit or... the trucks were not filled up. ah ha right on cue here comes the next truck n sure enough... nowhere near 8m3!

The tally-man / 'supervisor' on site caved in quick and confirmed they were pulling the material from a pit and could not get up the ramp if fully loaded.

ok no probs, as long as we all understand this when it comes to totaling the 'truckloads'.

(yet more proof, if any of us still need it that you just gotta watch all of them, all the time!)

after lunch we were up to 55 loads, and they had got bigger, as the ramp dried out.

But the sky was really blackening up and TBH I feared we would be shortly calling a halt to proceedings. the tractor had to keep breaking off to scrape the road even without the rain.

Lady luck stayed with us though, and by close of play, 80 loads had been placed and some shaping up had been carried out.

Balance was planned for tomorrow weather permitting but i really did not think we would be that lucky...

progress...at last! land raising day 2

day 2 started like day 1 ...except... sneakily PJ n me had stayed over in Chonburi so were on the site first thing!

again it looked like rain, again the gods were with us and it held off. we placed another 50 loads and the tractor guy did an excellent job of leveling it all up. only got a major truck bog down once on the activity and it was with only about 10 loads to go. needed a second truck and the tractor to pull and push him out of the bog they created.

so 130 real loads ( we had some other free ones to make up for the initial short fall and my calcs over the area confirmed the volume delivered). 118k total cost. was that a lot? i dunno... we had to get it done. we got it done. its a good job too.

and that rain? 30 minutes after pulling away to go back to BKK.... down it came. not hard n heavy, but persistent.. probably ideal for starting that levelling / packing down process.

a lot of pictures to follow when i get back to Abu Dhabi... cant upload at the moment.

    cheers all!!

    progress pictures - engineers visit

View of the plot before starting the work

    A second view...

yes - it's a bit overgrown but we have not been here for 5 months

We have to leave this small verge here, the Engineer chanced his luck and insisted - though of course we have access over it. No problemo - any drainage water can run down that and onto the road.

PJ explains to the Engineer what she wants to (read 'knows will') happen with regards to plan changes, payments, soil deliveries, etc

The Engineer has quickly (and correctly) realised that it is dangerous to put up any alternative view to Princess Joy

Progress - land raising (day 1)

so... now we got the Engineer 'sorted', it was time to start rolling the loads onto the land.

By the time we got there they had placed 11 loads (they claimed). 104m3? I don't think so...

If that's 8m3, then I need to go back to school

    It's not, and I don't...

The Boss is on site - lol the smell of fear was everywhere.
Well... either that or where they were getting the soil was err... 'questionable'

the Supervisor elected to keep a low profile when he realised we were on to him for the small loads.

    yep...we started!

....and Mr.Tractorman was straight onto the problem. This was the first of several road scrapes he did

the trucks started to churn up the ground adjacent to the road - it was expected as it had rained a lot in the previous week.

Yes, those are good sized trucks, so your price is looking better. But the loads are undersized.

That's possible DM but we heard that they were hauling from a pit and with the previous rains, the access ramp was too steep and slippery if fully loaded. The solution on site was to tip some of the loads over the boggy area to make a firm access 'mat' but they did not do this straight away.

I got a few more photos to come to close this part of the tale...I'm using the work PC and its Ramadan here so we had to leave work early yesterday and I could not complete.

hi Rickschoppers - I just did the final calc based on area and thickness placed then x-checked that against the claimed trucks and adjusted the truckage assuming 8m3 per truck hence we got the free loads. I think I scored because my volume calculation was for compacted (I.e.the tractor squared it up) not just fluffed up material where it was tipped.

There were no arguments from the supplier.
