rental and purchase seems more expensive online...

    Hi folks
I have no personal experience renting or buying property in Bangkok so I would like to benefit from the experience on this board

Friends of mine in BKK have rented and purchased for so much less than i see online. Do the numbers below seem average or the exception?

Rental: 2 story house with yard and surrounding gate. Teak interior in a Japanese soji style. 4 bedrooms. very spacious. no internet or utilities. on small soi a few blocks from Thong Lo. Price: 14,00bt/ month

Purchase: 3 level condo in same area. high end. nice finishes. 2+ bedrooms
    Price: $1,300,000 bt

Are these prices in line? Any realtor site i go to the prices are triple for rental.

    thanks

Cut out the middleman and avoid the realtor.

Here's a Thai website that has rentals at more reasonable rates.

    ddproperty.com/

Get a Thai to help you navigate the site.

Well done to you for figuring it out so quick. I've lived here three years, moved three times, used an online estate agent every time - and now finally the penny has dropped. The only way really is to pick the area you want, then start pounding the streets. Knock on doors, look on the notice boards in condo lobbies, ring the numbers you see on hand written signs.Easier said than done on a sultry Bangkok day, definitely, but that seems to be how you'll find the bargains.
