I actually felt a bit guilty after reading your posts today because I'd not even started clearing my house up and moving everything back to the 1st floor and the floodwaters never made it past the front gate.

So I've just spent the last 6 hours getting everything in order and semi back to normal.

another day spent scrubbing the walls of the fence around my house. One more day and then a nice day to dry and I should be able to repaint them. Then I can finally redo the grass. One thing that wont be hard to find is the sand to raise up the yard by about 5 centimeters. So many left over sand bags. Just have to find the ones that are sand, and not rocks and dirt.

Cant do much tomorrow as we have a meeting down on Sathorn rd. Trying to figure out how to get back to work and how to schedule it. Thanks for the thoughts andy.

AO, are you going to do anything to prevent future flooding?

Walls or dams or the like?

I'd be interested to know if any members "Home" flood defenses worked. My moo baans defenses were so good that my home ones didn't get tested out.

When I was dismantling them I saw a line of ants that had found a hole, but as I dismantled further I found that they had not made it all the way through. So I'll count that one as a win!

You want to repaint so early?

I would wait well into the dry season. There is still a lot of moisture deep inside, I am sure. Or if you paint make sure that the moisture can leave through the paint.

Great idea, but Bangkok is as flat as a pancake. You'd need to get out of the city for that.

First quote, don muang is the highest point in all Bangkok. Why do you think the original airport was built there? This flooding was not natural.

Second our walls are rendered cement over bricks they have been washed, disinfected, sanded, and now are ready to paint. Its been over 3 weeks since the water left. I am not doing the floorboards yet as they are wood, and are still warping. But will put in all new. Thanks for your concern.

    My sympathies AO.

We evacuated on the 27th Oct , spent 3 weeks traveling down south then returned on the 14th November to find the water level the same as when we left , 4 inches up the living room wall although it had been 6 inches higher in our absense. !!
Luckily for us Yingluks 5000 plus a lot of elbow grease will put things right so could have been a lot worse. Only got my internet connection back today and managed to take the car out for a drive for the first time in 47 days yesterday. Luckily I had it well out of the water on blocks so only need to replace the brake pads.

Great to hear B. I was really worried about you in the beginning. So happy to hear all is well. We will keep using elbow grease as well. Its free and you sleep very well at night. Dealing with the kids going to school on suk. 15 at night is the biggest concern right now.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics AO.

I thought of the renovation work you had just completed straight away so I'm happy to hear that things, although bad are not going to be too hard to put right for you.

Good to see things moving forward - hopefully this will all be a distant dream in 6 months. This could be a good time to replace the floorboads with old and wide teak wood ones from up the road, near Auttaya.

Good luck with the clean up

Thanks rock, but the only ones are in a hallway, two kitchens the maids room okay there. I dont think floorboards was the right word. Baseboards, whatever, the long 5 centimeter pieces of wood that come up from the floor to the wall. The ones that are fucked we paid for real wood not particle board and vaneer. Those are the hallway and kitchens, the old ones in the maids room are fine. The teak floors upstairs were not affected at all. In reality we got off lucky.

I just had to prise up two baseboards to access some wiring. They crumbled. Luckily I know that now, as I have to now replace the entire hallway and part of the bedroom.

Yep, I am looking forward to that.
