The homebrewed weizin beer is 260b a litre too, the normal beer is a bit cheaper I think, and they have the dark 'dunkel' too.

    Good value.

    ^ Yep . It's smeg.

He couldn't resist mentioning his own name in the Ant lives thread.
Checked out his 10 posts and they all bare the hallmark of his writings (adding inane links to prove his case and spelling Thailand without the capital "t" as usual).

    Back to the OP.

Think the 3 litre towers of the in-house beer runs at about 750b or so.
    Tastes great.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Are the Tawan Daengs in Bangkok a pretty similar set up to the ones in cities in Isaan? I've had some great nights at the ones in Surin and particularly the Khon Kaen one. They get pretty lively and are definitely worth checking out for a piss up and feed.

There are also two more in Bangkok unless they have closed. They are opposite each other on Pattanakarn, one is dedicated to rock music, Caraboa has played there several times, often unannounced and the other is dedicated to Mor Lam and can get wild at times. Jintana Boonlap has played there many times.

I saw some of them in the Rama 2 branch. Maybe they're rotated?

Do most provincial capitals actually have one of these?

I was taken to one in Mahasarakham about 5 years ago, a few km out on the road to Kalasin and just passed the brothel shacks.

KK and Surin have them, so they do seem to be dotted around the place.

    What's all that " in fairness " about ?

Why no " To Be Sure "

Judging by the size of that litre glass, you are 5 ft 2 inches tall

I wouldn't mind watching Carrabow, Sek Loso or Clash there

haha, the bastard was about an inch thick and weighed 15 kilos.

First time I got one I said cheers and went to take a nice gulp, but was set on by the waitress as it's only a jug and they pour it into a glass/onto your lap for you.

To be honest I think jugs are better with some sort of spout or whatever so it can be easily poured, but you know... The Thai.

That's what I was referring to when I said they can get wild at times! One night at the KK branch the floor was literally vibrating with people dancing to Mor Lam, with women up on the tables and all sorts! It was like a big drunken hillbilly barn dance, great fun!

I remember hearing of another somewhere on my travels that I didn't get around to visiting...might have been Buriram or Sisaket, so they do seem to be quite common.

According to their website, they only have 2 branches in Bangkok and 2 in Singapore. I guess the provincial ones are just copies.

Is this a place you can go alone, or with one or two friends, or do you need to be with a big group to have fun?
