Can anyone tell me about the Pintsman in Silom on a Sunday afternoon?
I can.Originally Posted by good2bhappy

Just waiting for someone with hair to add a review to this thread...
Food in the new Irish Pub called MULLIGANS in Soi 11 is good. Excellent Beef and Cheese Pie with mash.
Managed by Kiwi Jimmy formerly of the Robin Hood.

love to buy decent beer at the local mama and papas street stall
Yeah, as sad as those Chinese living, working and eating in their Chinatowns everywhere.....ditto Turkish in their kebap restaurants.......ditto Pakis and Banglas in all their restaurants......ditto Greeks in their tavernas ........
Just because folk elect to migrate doesn't automatically mean they should divest themselves of their cultural habits.
Silly observation and typical of Lonely Planeteers.
The Dubliner appears to have closed, finally.
The place was locked up, chairs on tables and the entrance barred as I passed today 1320 hrs.
The website is still up and running though. Have they turned in their lease and moved on?
No great loss in the scheme of things, their food was invariably over priced and indifferently prepared, but still, always sad to see a familiar place disappear. The Irish owner was involved in the boiler scam allegations a while ago but of late the place seemed to be full of French geezers eating a froggie buffet every lunch hour.
Could be just closed temporarily? Or did it look more permanent?
I had heard that all the leases in "Washington Square" were expiring. Believe the property has or will be sold.Originally Posted by thegent
Never liked the dubliner, or any other of the brit irish pubs that sprung up along sukhumvit.
A newish place on soi 22, called "no idea", however has become a firm favourite on my visits to bangkok. Its about 50 metres down the soi from sukhumvit, where larrys used to be.
Excellent food, good staff and management, and a covered terrace on the first floor for smokers and to watch the labourers sweating away constructing the new hotel going up opposite.
Dont know what beers they do because i hardly ever touch the stuff.
Its owned and managed by an amiable aussie who I think used to have a bar on soi 8.
No sign or anything.
They did say a few months ago they were looking for new premises but at that time they ( meaning the staff ) had no idea of where they might be. I believe the Los Cabos rumour was precisely that.
Perhaps it is a temporary thing but, certainly, the leases are all due to expire imminently with maybe a month or so to run in some cases.
You need to upgrade the Pickled Liver listing- they just celebrated their one-year anniversary at the new soi 7/1 location.
Are you a recovering alcoholic or is it a question of another tipple? Can't quite see you as a Pimms man but perhaps a G & T before sundown maybe?
I had always assumed Yorkshire folk to be beer monsters but perhaps you're the artistic type?
I could never understand how folk manage without alcohol. It's not that one needs it to live but I know of no other socially acceptable method of making people less insufferable.
Incidentally, I believe the owner of No Idea is a Kiwi and not an Aussie. They can get quite touchy about any confusion.
He (initially) did a good job at the Soi 8 bar if that's the same chap.Originally Posted by thegent

I dont drink much alcohol, havent done since I was a student and was introduced to the joys of cannabis by a hippy girl studing fine arts, i stopped that many years ago and never went back to alcohol. An occasional beer, g and t, or wine with a meal, but i dont drink regularly and my usual tipple if in a bar is english tea or diet coke.

The best way of making people less insufferable is to stay away from them, and seeing that so many people approach insufferability after three or four drinks, churning out the same meaningless monologues, incessantly guffawing and becoming ever louder, thats usually the time I leave.
My wife is much better at humouring enebriated falangs than i am, so I just leave it up to her if escaping is not an option, and I just sit quietly and ogle the serving girls.
The bar owner may be a kiwi now you come to mention it, hes affable and has some good tales to tell.
The dubliner is moving to Soi 31 or 33 and will be 4 times the size I hear.
Ive never liked the place, the toilet on the 3rd floor was my main pet hate

Agreed, absolutely rank and not in keeping with the fairly up-market-ish feel that the rest of the pub aspires to.
Food crap and overpriced too, otherwise a reasonable boozer. Will be interesting to see if the food is improved in the new location, if it is it could have good potential.
Fresh Prince - I'll almost certainly be popping into yours next Thursday (27th), what's all this about a ladies night?
Also, any tips for cheapish accommodation nearby?
