Taking a break from DIY work around the new house, I decided it was time to get some news struts for the rear hatch on the car.

If you are feeling the need for speed but can't afford to turbo charge your car then go faster stripes will at least make it look fast and where better to pick up some stick on stuff than Worachak.





To take in all there is to see down this auto parts heaven you'll need to start outside the entrance to Romaneerat Part on the corner of Tannon Luang.







Once you start walking down this street , you'll cross a canal and come to this crossroads where all the stores begin .




Doesn't matter which side you walk , there are plenty of shops but generaly the righthand side of the street has more to offer , with the goods spilling out onto the pavement





















I didn't have to look far before I found some struts for my Nissan stacked in a box outside a shop . Not genuine parts but good enough and a lot cheaper than I had been quoted from my Nissan dealer who would have had to import them from Japan as my NX coupe is getting on for its 20th birthday. ( still going strong though )





Remember the song ......' Have you got a light boy......have you got a light ? '







Oh, and if you're driving something really old or exotic, there is still hope as there are some places specialising in older stuff

About 150 metres down on the right you come to this building which is to motor accessories what Paintip Plaza is to computers. Several floors of stuff to browse and a few places to grab a coffee.










Ah....... I needed a new keyring





Outside on the pavement I noticed this Phantom trying its best to look like a Harley. The owner couldn't squeeze a 1200cc unit in so had to be happy with some stick on chrome cylinders. Saved a lot of money and lost a lot of horses.

If your wheels are leg powered there are also a few shops selling bicycles.




Once you cross the Worachak junction and progress down the street you come to a fork in the road. Take Maitree Road heading towards Rama 4. This street is entirely devoted to wheels and tyres.










After a few hundred metres of rubber you will come to a roundabout. You will need to head more or less straight on to get you to Rama 4. Around this roundabout is a bit of a daytime hooker scene but its a bit tired and not worth the effort unless you are up for cheap knee trembler






And here are the seedy hotels where the ladies ply their trade.

So, eventually you wind up at Hualampong station, a very old and much photographed building.




Plus the equally old and well known Station hotel. An old Aussie mate had a few interesting sexual trists here and was staying here during the Suchinda riots. He was unfortunate enough to winess soldiers firing into the massed demonstrators. Very sad. These days they prefer snipers but the end result is the same




Ok , so back to the auto parts. Continue down Rama 4 road, go under the expressway and turn right up this street in Pathumwan




Go up here a hundred metres, cross the street and enter the grid like streets of Soi Chula. Here you'll find lots of secondhand car a motorcycle parts, mostly imported from Japan and in very good condition. A friend got a complete motorcycle here with very minor damage. Repaired it cheaply and was a very happy bloke.







At this point the battery went on my camera so the remainig shots are from my mobile but should give an idea of what you'll see here.














There didn't seem to be as much stuff here as the old days but I was only doing a walk through of this area. If you look around more thoroughly there might be more to it than met my eyes.



By now you are not too far rom the national stadium and the end of the BTS so you could do thjis walk in reverse.

I'll be happy to reply to questions but as I'm still not using my own computer the replies might be a bit slow in coming.

I found this vid ages ago and his shop is down there somewhere. I want this fitted to my Mazda.

Yes, parking is a bit scarce. I park in the multi story car park at Banglampu behind Khao Sahn road , opposite KFC. From there I take a 50 baht taxi ride to Romaneerat Park. I think I saw a car park in Tannon Luang road , just past the Sriworajai building. There are metre bays in the side streets but getting on one is impossible. Also, its a one way street heading towards the park so its not much fun if you're driving. Best to check it out on foot first. Alternatively, there is a car park near the roundabout but a bit far away to walk back.

This shop (among several others) is owned by my father-in-law- that's one of his warehouses- his showroom isn't too far away- he's made a fortune from all that stuff.

My dogs have completely destroyed the factory wheels on my Yaris by urinating on them every time I bring the car home. They're corroded and ugly and I'm about due for new tires anyway.

I would think that because so many Thais like to put fancy and over sized wheels and tires on their cars, there should be a glut of near new factory wheels and tires available.

Did you see, or do you know of any place I could buy a set, preferably with near new factory tires already mounted?

I wasn't looking Bob but I'm sure if you check around localy you might be able to get a set without the bother of heading into the city. I did the same thing myself a couple of years back. I exchanged the standard mag wheels on my car for a nicer set also made by Nissan. The tyre place gave me 2000 for my old wheels in exchange for the new set which cost 6000. They swapped the tyres over for free plus a small charge for checking the tracking.

I'm thinking of installing strobe headlights to wake up Somchai and bus drivers who stick to the centre / fast lane and travel 20kph slower than the flow.
Wife does not want me to use the horn as you can wear a bullet in this part of the world for that.

great pictures and i was there once and lost the pic of the street sign but u had it.thank u ,also i have been to ur father in law shop or the one in the pic and as u say he makes a mint ,a really nice place ,but make sure u wape ur feet of before entering ur auto because u hit quite a bit of grease on ur soles ,but well worth the trip.
i thought when we went we parked in a 3 or 5 story parking lot and when we went down i thought we were near these places because i dont remember taking a taxi ,but that was 2 yr ago ,but thanks for the memories ,like going to pick -a- part in the states.

Every decent sized town in Thailand will have at least one warehouse selling car parts and engines.
The one I use in Phrae is huge and has far more engines than I reckon he can sell in a year. There are another 4 shops also stacked out with engines.
Ask around and you will find a local supply.

Thanks for the map Thetyim. Both areas are within 1 kilometre of Hualampong station. One to the east, the other to the west.

I'll try and dig out a map of Tanon Luang tonight.
