Everyone knows Lumphini Park or the other newer parks in the city centre but one of the nicest parks is just over the river in Nonthaburi province , on the outskirts of the urban sprawl.
Having not much to do, a friend and I planned a midweek picnic in the park. Come the day however, we succumbed to the temptation of a burger at A&W and so our picnic turned into a pleasant afternoon stroll in the completely empty park.
This park also serves as Klongmasters jogging track and in his thread on the subject he gives some excellent satellite photes of the place and so rather than repeat his efforts here is the link for those wishing to see the place for themselves .

The easiest way to get there is by taxi , about 200 baht from downtown but if you want to make a day of it you could take a regular boat up the Chao Phraya river and get off at the last stop ... Nonthaburi Pier. From there you can hire a long tailed boat to take you acroos the river to the park.
And so :
My friend Mr. C contemplates the map at the park entrance .
As you enter the park the view to the left is very lush
Whilst straight ahead there is an interesting contrast of architecture.
The three of us decided to take a clockwise route passing Pigeonville on the way
A little further on we came to Klongmasters playground and we had a pleasant 10 minutes here without having to compete with kids.
However , we were soon distracted by the bright colour and plastic of this peculiar giant game console.
Surprisingly, it was not broken and all the nobs , buttons and sound effects worked .The three of us spend a good ten minutes trying to work out how to play but when it proved beyond our patience we resorted to kiddy tactics and just thumped everything in a one minute frenzy of violence and noise. However, anything that can withstand the attention of the elements and hoards of children was not going to break from our efforts so we went back to the swings to rest.
Refreshed a little we crossed one of the many bridges to the next island.
Which brings us to another excercise park with so many machines to try that we didn't even attempt it. Too tiring just to contemplate.
This one would be a good practice for those who have to use buses frequently
A lot of these vertical machines have pithy words of wisdom to chew over whilst you sweat.
After absorbing several of these we were off again, pleasant views continuing.
More to come in just a mo.
