    Chatuchak or JJ Market

Went to JJ or Chatuchak (Jatujack) Market this afternoon for a bit of a wander around and shopping, keeps the missus happy and maybe she'll let me out for a beer later...

Set on 35 acres Chatuchak is the largest market in Thailand, easiest way to get to it is BTS Mochit which puts you in the market.

It wasn't too busy today, although we got there early I think many people had been put off by the upcoming 'Red Shirt' demonstrations.

The fashion area is good for the women, and there's loads of stalls. You would struggle to see them all in a day.

We stopped for a bite to eat and I had Prakow Gai Kai Dow mai sook. Chicken in basil with a runny fried egg. It was surprisingly good but not a contender for Bangkok's best Krapow award. I onloy thought to take a photo after I had started munching away at it...

The missus had Yen Ta Fo noodles. She poked and played with it so it was average I guess.

The spirit house shrine tucked away amongst all the stalls.

These kebab places are everywhere around the market now. Didn't try them but they smelt good.

It was pretty quiet as I mentioned. This is the main thoroughfare.

    Nice flowery things.

The pet section. I had never found it before so I was pleased to accidentally stumble across it today. The dogs were so cute. My missus kept yelling at me not to touch them because she thinks they all have rabies.

Some rodents and a big cock.

    Chicky prison.

The clock. It was a clear day, must have been close to 40 degrees and the sun was burning down.

Another shot of the main thoroughfare facing NE. You can just about see the BTS Skytrain in the distance.

Thirsty work all this shopping, so we stopped here for drinks. 20thb each. I had a lime and she had the yellow one (crysanthimum or sunflower I am guessing but someone can help me out there). The name of which is obscured in the photo!

Hi Hitler! The Fuhrer still as popular as ever in Thailand. My missus doesn't know who he is...

Nice one. I had one of those kebabs last time I was there. Hit the spot just right.

My missus bought a couple of things but my haul was as follows:

1 pair Oakley Gascan sunglasses (fake) 150thb
1 pair Oakley Monster Dog sunglasses (fake) 150thb
1 pair Billabong cargo shorts (look like originals snagged from the factory, possibly seconds) 300thb
1 Ralph Lauren Polo shirt (looks original and material is good, cost and the fact they only had the one indicates it could be original) 350thb
1 orange polo shirt with fish design (looks like something Tony Soprano might wear) 200thb
    2 T-shirts with screen prints 420thb
1 Guinness coffee mug (authentic Guinness merchandise, even had the tag on) 59thb

So not a bad haul considering. I just ran out of gas in the end to keep walking about.

Nice pics. I run out of gas getting from the parking area to the market. Not so bad as the place wasn't so packed you couldn't move. JJ a good place if the crowds aren't there.

Was up last weekend and picked up a full set of dishes n bowls n stuff. The kebabs (from that very stall) were pretty poor, ketchup in a kebab?

And thought Noodles was telling all and sundry that they were fresh out of military uniforms up there.

I'm sweating just looking at your pics. Nice job. I enjoy watching the tourists. The vendors are always shocked when they run into a farang who speaks Thai with them.

I always head straight for that little street with all the art shops and then perch myself in one of the little restaurant bars until the missus has finished shopping.

    I love Chatuchak.

I can combine shopping and photography and the missus hates it so won't come.

I can spend from dusk to dawn without getting bored.

Actually, its a way to spread disease between different breeders - most know that the public want to play with the pups and fall in love with them and others are aware of disease transmission potential. Also, there are actually two pet sections quite some distance apart from each other. The other section has a lot more focus on fish, birds and reptile sellers with a couple of dog sellers as well. The section that I think you were in mainly focuses on dogs and some cats and is a lot easier to find.

Damn, wish I'd seen that sweat netting when I was there last, good to keep the sun off your neck when out in the sticks all day.

Love that place - will likely head there next weekend. I can't believe how few people are there. Usually when I am there you can barely move! There is a place that I always migrate to 1/2 way through my trip there that has a yoghurt/fruit dish that gives me energy to continue!

I was there on Sunday and have never seen it so quiet in all my years of visiting Thailand.

One thing never changes and that is, I was absolutely foked by the time I left.

That place is hell on earth. Much too hot and normally too crowded. JJ Mall was a very good idea even if it means to pay a few baht more.

Good quality fake Oakleys? Whereabouts did you find them at JJ? Sorry for the late question, I was in jail or something for awhile there.

I like the furniture shops close to JJ Mall along Khampeng Phet Road. Really good reproductions in solid teak. Further in there are some good custom lighting shops.
