It's amazing how those bars survive.Originally Posted by tuferguson

This forum is new to me. I'm excited to look through the threads. I spent 3 months in Bangkok at ABAC doing an art residency with the L'alliance Francaise.
I went back to soi zero because i remembered it from years earlier when stayin just down suk soi 2 at the atlanta.
I thought I was doing some vaguely defined project about the men who stay there forever> I was naive perhaps.
The installation involved taking the graphics of the ubiquitous 7-Eleven and pretending that their new logo was mai penlai and stay forever.
Here are a few pics of the soi in 2004 on my flickr page. well back to the forum....!
i can't yet post links apparently. i"m on flicker.com name greg hefford. in the bangkok file. "stay forever mai penrai"
I'll try again later

You need 10 posts to be able to put pics up Greg.
And since you can't spell flickr, I'll put the link up for you.

Can't say it will really be missed, however I had a few nice, no pressure liquid afternoons in there over the years. It was a nice occasional change from the Nana BS.
Aaah the rise of the middle class
harsh man, harsh!
it was a low pressure place where you could go and have fun, play pool ( in some bars ) but none of the you buy mee ladee drink bs in the gogos. ( but you knew you never ever ever wanted to have a shite in the place, the pissoir smelled waaaay too bad as it was )
just wish i had taken more photos when i had been there.
why is it you always think that after you leave or its been demolished
You dont pay them to stay for the night, you pay them to leave in the morning
Where is the next Soi Zero? I hate going to the big-3 (Nana, Cowboy, Patpong) and would love to find a nice little area with some bars, and entertainment that is not so busy. Ideas??
