What's your or her definition of "decent"?
If you are chasing personal recommendations you may want to say what area.

Might find something in here mate - Mr Roomfinder | Find Bangkok Apartments - Thai Condos - House Rents
Hello: A/C, in a decent-safe location, with a pool and security. I hope that is not to much for what I am looking or have to spend?

Decent being the operative word, it might be difficult...most websites start at 15k and go up from there. You can forget the pool for sure. Taxis are so cheap in Bkk that there is no need to be near public transport, as that requirement will automatically add to the rental cost...Originally Posted by Rascal
good luck with your search...
No need to forget the pool, even at 5-10 k a month condos there are often pools and gym facilities.
Really the OP could find a place in most areas that would suit his needs.
Is there any particular part of Bangkok you want to stay in Rascal?
You may find you have to just come here and look around yourself, as websites on apartment finding seem to be useful mainly to give an idea of what you can get, but rarely have any bargain places.
Alternatively, use an agent, but your budget is probably a bit low for most of them to bother with.
okie...things have obviously changed since my renting days...but I'm surprised you say there are pools in places for 5k a month...Originally Posted by bkkmadness
certainly need to know an area first though...Bkk is a big city...
You can get a studio or even a 1 bed place with a pool for about that figure, but you need to look around.
That would help.Originally Posted by bkkmadness
My side of town (saphan kwai) has alot of very affordable housing built to newer standards, and is very accessible with public transportation. The Ari area is nearby as well but the costs are a bit higher, but all together much lower than you'll find in the center city areas.
A Gracious thanks to all, the web sites gave so many with pools and many under 15bht. Wonderful...Oh any areas to just not go etc. We both been back to Thailand, wife many me no just twice. Once during the war and 2002. Heading back...
