Tops Club - A disappointing Makro alternative

Went with my amazing super duper wifey as we were looking forward to grand opening.

Had high hopes for it to resemble something like Costco. They want 999b (current promo 799b) for annual membership to get a 5% discount on the same product and prices they offer at their regular Tops store. A lot of Thais came with their fancy cars and left the store with 1-2 items, mostly noodles and coke. Wonder about all the meat and bread they will throw out. Lots of Farang management today. While they had some interesting product I cheapened out and we went to Sizzler instead.

Those prices are nuts! As harsh as winters are here, at least the meat is cheap and plentiful

I think any countrywide store opening always begins with a standard inventory. After that, the stock is based on local usage and turnover. The same throughout Asia.

800B for a kilo of ground beef seems a bit excessive to me.

It's 609 baht a kilo, Topper. And if the quality is quite good, that's not expensive for Thailand.

But it's "True Aussie Beef", and it's in a sealed wrapper.

    Who's this 'we', ex high-ish-roller?

Lots of overpriced crap in Tops.

They do have those cutesy little trolleys that can accommodate two baskets though.

I'd silently disparaged them on previous visits, but discovered yesterday that they're actually quite handy when you're thirsty at 13:40.

it will be a cold day when I chose lower quality food in order to save a few baht of my pension cheque.

But youve not yet sunk to choosing the out of date food with the red tickets on them. So there is that.
