Where's the catch? Ibis Viengtai (KhaoSan) quotes 8k for 3 nights all in, could stretch there, while trip.com have the Mandarin hotel at 2154+=2300 down from 8k/night.

My only other experience booking online for a hotel was San Diego (2008), looked good as it would, $160 first night reducing by $10/night to $120, paid up front for 3 nights, turned out to be a $50 Paki owned slum.

Shortlist so far, probably needs to be purged:
    Snake farmRiver taxi
    Harbourland
    Bkk science museum / planetarium
    National science museum
    Kro kret island
    Funarium

    Airforce museum
    Chatuchak market
    Axe throwing – lad prao
    Lazer quest
    Lazgam, Holiday Inn, 5thFloor, 1 Sukhumvit Soi 22, Klongton, Klongtoey, 02663 7703, start 2pm
    Safari World 029144100
Siam Oark City, 203 Suan Sayam Rd, Khwaeng Khan Na Yao, Khet Khan Na Yao, 02919 7200, 10am–6pm
    Bounce
Sapan Taxin BTS station, buy a day pass on the Tourist ferry
    Childrens’ Discovery Museum, Soi 4, Kamphaeng Phet Road, Chatuchak, 02 246 6144, 10am – 4pm

For a family, especially if you have more than one nipper, check out air b n b.

And as dill said, drive from pattaya every time.

Look for a place with easy highway access, eg on Rama IV

You do know the kinda people who get on buses in Pattaya right Terry? Bogan and chav sex tourists, you daft fucker.

Its a quick hour and a half journey too. Driving around Bangkok isn't as bad as you make out either as long as you steer clear of the morning and evening rush hours and the 3pm school run.

He's not gonna be able go get to some of the places Luigi has shown him on the BTS either

Are they legal in Thailand? Not that many other illegal shit isn't overlooked

    There were apartments on Booking.com

The Ideo in on nut was on there and around 1500 baht i think. I can't see it there now though. At least you'd get a decent pool for the price with that

    Anyway,

You silly fukers are telling the poor coont to drive his car up, negotiate Bangkok traffic and find his fookin way to a unfamiliar Hotel. ? ?

Fooked in the head you lot are eh.

The correct advice is to Bus up and take a metered Taxi and once in Bangkok if he needs to. Sit fookin back and let Somchai the retard negotiate the shit.

But to make shit easy just get a fookin Gaff on the MRT line.

Fook luigies fookin shit gaff advice, it's fooked.

Taking a car is 2 hours max straight to a hotel in Sukhumvit. A bus would be longer and then you need to get some twat to drive you there in a taxi from either Ekkamai or, god forbid, chatuchak.

And there's fuck all on the mrt line except a connection to the BTS. .
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

You are a special kind of stupid aint Cha.

Any silly coont with half a brain will source a Hotel along the BTS line not the fookin MRT.

And once that is sorted it's a piss easy commute to the Hotel jumping the BTS innit.

The public Bus station in Pats drops punters at the Eatern Bus Terminal in Bangers and then it's 2 fookin minutes onto the BTS.

But no, you fukin fools want this guy to drive his motor up and use Google maps to find his hotel in the horrific traffic ???

Know wonder some of you plebs are leaving Thailand.

    You are fookin idiots.

Terry, Armstrong lives in Bangkok and has a fair idea on how to get around.
Personally, I think there are cases to made for both.

I like the Bus, and his child might think it's a novelty.
But it's a bitch to get transport to the Pattaya Bus Station.

If he goes for a Budget Hotel in Bangkok, sometimes they don't have parking.

Having a car gives more flexibility around Bangkok, but Parking can be a bitch.

    BTS/MRT/Taxis/klong boats/ferries give a lot more flexibility.

I really don't know bkk and usually end up in strange places, so I get your points about not driving, but google maps is pretty friendly and if we do drive the hotel would need to offer free parking. Also I don't expect to do much driving beyond to and from, happy enough with taxis/bts, but having the car allows more options including help with shopping/storage.

Funny how hotel prices have upped 10-15% overnight.

^ Just check that the Parking is 'on-site' as some places, the smaller ones, offer parking but it's in a nearby but different location.

I must be the odd one out. Taxi from pattaya to bangkok. What, 1500 baht? Door to door, no hassels. Mrt etc around bk. Easy peasey, no mess no fuss. Same way back.

Looks like the Royal Rattanakosin Hotel near Khao san, 3 nights all in 5600 though no doubt they'll top up with a few invisibles. Wifey chose this as we stayed there about 17 years ago and aside from Nana it's the only hotel in bkk that we both know; one unintended consequence is that she's in spirit and pencilled in a 1-week bkk trip for April when everyone's on hol.

Done deal, parking available so it keeps the drive option open, doesn't look convenient for much of the shortlist below, but I'm sure we'll find enough within range to occupy 3 days.

Thanks all, wouldn't have got this far without your input.
