When you get to BKK,Book yourself a flight to Manila, and go enjoy the islands there and the romance your looking for, still 7peso to the pound and not a rip off place as long as your careful, Beer hotels women are cheaper, though the woman you pull make sure they understand its a business arrangement and tell her to put her mobile away. The good thing about Flip flops is they are very accommodating but make sure you don't get caught in the position of getting married to one, they are worse than Thai women in there demands.

Have fun and if serious about romance try placing adds up in free forums websites craigslist as well.

Are there particular things that I should be aware of? What are the common negative things that happen to tourists there that I might encounter? I need to know this ahead because I don’t want something bad to happen to me while in there.

I’ve already read some blogs and other posts about their experience. It was a mix of good and bad reviews. I need other details though that I have to keep in mind. Is there any guide someone can recommend to me? I need more information. I only have three weeks left to prepare.

Never keep wads of cash in a hotel room safe. Wait till the maid has done your room, remove the bin bag, drop your cash in the bin, replace bag, put junk in the bag and throw a few notes in the safe after checking it's properly anchored.

Anyway, how safe are safes? You can enter a standard hotel safe without passcode or key; give it a hefty thump at the top above the lock and at the same time twist the door handle; bingo.

Never join a group of Thais drinking whisky no matter how friendly or how good their English is.

    Sorry Mate ... my bad.

I was reiterating your original question because it was important.

    Hence, top of the list.

    Apologies for the mis-understanding.

Romantic tour, is that like the YouTube videos of holidays catering specifically for single American men to meet Russian women.
These types of tours are not available in Thailand, so if you've been sold one, ask for a refund.
