That Nonthaburi pier is a very dirty filthy place with loads of rude people. I wouldn't go there but up to you.

The cremationplace of the ex-king is something you won't see anywhere else, it's really beautifull. (bring passport if going there, it's free entrance and also open at night with nice lights).
Can go there by boat but have to walk all around it (through overflowing toilet crap) and after it you walk back all around it again to the boats.

I would bring them to the river dinnercruises after that. Great way to eat and see BKK in a relaxed way. Forget about chinatown but up to you of course.

For exploring, Chatuchak market or another one ( in the weekend) or the chatuchak plantmarket on wednesday/thursday. Plus ortorkor market for some fruit/food.

Is the crematorian thingy still standing? Oh, and where would the closest bar to Chong Nonsi be that would be showing the Ashes tomorrow?

As far as I know, yes...but expect a 3-4 hour wait to get in. I was literally jaw dropped by it and unless seen in person, there's no pictures that I've seen that truly capture the details of it.

The famous Madrid Bar is one that's great to visit....lots of history on the walls there.

Haha DrBob - well picked it. Unfortunate but funny! A 4 hour wait? Bugger that. 15 minutes is about my max unless I am at an airport.

Is it worth looking at from the outside?

The Madrid bar - thats the one half way along pat pong right? Do they show the cricket? Only been there once and didn't get the feeling that they would. Molly Malones might be the go. Thanks.

Its a 1 minute walk from Sala Daeng BTS or a 10 min walk from Chong Nonsi BTS, hardly worth walking up the bts steps. Nice and fresh out today too

Yes, just arrived and the weather is indeed amazing. Scratching the cricket now as Steve Smith and Marsh are out so thinking of a walk through chinatown instead. Friends fly in tomorrow.

My walk through Chinatown was awesome. can't believe I had never done that before. Got some great pics but because TD sucks at photo sharing I'm sorry I can't/wont post any!

Made it to the airport with time to buy the guests sim cars etc. They finally popped out and we caught two taxis to the Sabai Sathorn hotel. Just behind that new rubix cube type building at Chong Nonsi. 2,000 baht a night. Ok place - large rooms, good service. Dropped our bags then off to super rich at Chong Nonsi station to exchange money. Then caught the skytrain to sala daeng and walked to Lumpini park making it just in time for the 6pm follies.

We then walked back to the hotel stopping along the way for street food and a bowl of kwquiteal soup on the street. Early to bed.

Next morning we walked the back roads to Sathorn and stopped for soup again for breakfast. This time of the guts variety. tuk tuk for 3 people and the rest of us grabbed a taxi for the short ride to Sathorn. avoided the touts and pissed off the staff trying to tell me I had to take the tourist boat. Said I am taking the regular service and give me 6 tickets - not impressed.

We got off at What Arun and spent an hour here before crossing the river. Had lunch and then dropped into Wat Pho - didn't go right in and then walked all the way to the Golden Mount going pass the palace and the big funeral thingy at Suang Luang. The crowds were amazing!

Mother Hen was a little buggered by then so we left her in a cafe while the rest of us did the golden mount. Boy that has changed since last time I was there! For the better though I guess - apart from the crowds. Saw in Thai a sign saying locals were free. I told them that seeing as I can read the sign then I must be able to get in for free. They agreed and then forgetting we had one less person with us proceeded to ay for 6 tickets - including myself - haha!

After the mount we picked up mother hen and got on the Klong boat to take us to Pratunam. first bit was alright and then it got super crowded. got off and walked to the walk bridge for the obligatory photos of Bangkok traffic. Then into the WTC to buy a few things. We then planned to have dinner outside at one of the beer gardens but the rise was too much so we fought the crowds towards Siam station and forced our way onto a train to Chong Nonsi. Got off and ate at a canteen type establishment at the base of the station. Then walked back to the hotel. Next morning we were in a mini van and bound for Karnchanupburi.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. They had a great time and were pretty well stuffed by the end! A good cross section of Bangkok was shown though I believe.

    Cheers all.
