BTS Morchit to Impact Arena on Chaengwattana Rd is a helluva long way to go by mc taxi.

Meter taxi from Sukhumvit using the tollway would be better. Or expressway to Din Daeng then Vipavadee-Rangsit rd and onto Chaengwattana.

I'll get a meter taxi from the hotel. Hopefully there won't be too much grief getting back.

There will if you want one at impact. You have no chance of getting a taxi at the show even the official taxi point said "no chance", your best bet is to get a MC taxi to Chaengwattana then a taxi from there.

After Guns n Roses, like 3 hours after, we couldn't get a taxi to take us to our hotel kinda near DMK. Until I just shouted '500 baht' as one guy was driving off and he hit the anchors and told us to jump in.

Nice bar on Soi 13. I recommend the pork chop and chips but do not have the gravy. As I am a bit of a gourmet I had mine with HP Sauce. Very, very good, probably best farang food in the area.

So, winged my way to Bangkok on the Sunday morning, and got a taxi straight from DM to Soi 8. 15 to 20 minute journey and around 300 baht.

Checked into the Adelphi Suites and dropped my things off in the room. Took a short video of what was a fairly spacious and comfortable room. Separate living area (including large fridge, washing machine, sofa and armchair, large LCD tv, microwave and hotplate etc. The bed was large and comfortable, and the bathroom well fitted with separate bath and shower, Great water pressure.



Then went across the street to the Kiwi Bar for a thirst quenching beer before heading to the Bangkok Motor Show at Impact.



To save any hassle trying to get back from Impact, I got the front desk at Adelphi to organise a taxi to take me there and then wait until I was ready to leave. I'll do a separate thread on the show itself as quite a lot of photos.

By the time I got back to Adelphi, I was quite hungry, and couldn't be bothered wandering around to find somewhere to eat, so opted for the Adelphi's in-house restaurant and terrace, Monsoon.

A satisfying meal of green chilli cheese burger and nachos and dip on the side did the trick.

That put me in the mood for a small nap, and when I woke up, showered and headed out to find somewhere to watch the Man United V Sunderland match.

That didn't take long, as when I crossed over the bridge at Nana BTS, I could see the match just about to start at a bar called 'The Game', directly under the BTS.





Another source of entertainment was watching to antics of some guy who was crashed out and semi comatose on the dividing strip between the lanes on Sukhumvit, who occasionally would roll around and pull his baggy shorts to one side, exposing his parts to the passing traffic.



I had a wander around Soi 11 after the match, but nowhere really caught my eye to have a few more wets, though I hadn't seen that much black gash on offer since working in Nigeria and Angola.

After a good sleep (in Adelphi, not in the middle of Sukhumvit), I wandered down to the breakfast buffet (breakfast voucher given to me at check in).

Very impressive buffet, both hot and cold.



Eggs made to order, so got myself a mixed platter, with a couple of coffees and glasses of juice and I was ready to face the world.



5 minute walk to Soi 13 and the Trendy Office to collect my new passport, and then thought about what else to do until my afternoon flight.

Took the BTS from Nana to Central World for a look around. Far too big and not needing anything anyway, headed back to Soi 8. Feet were hot, so went for a foot massage at a place opposite the Kiwi Bar.



I did think that the gender of the masseuse was suspect, however as no additional services were required, and the hands were strong enough, I allowed her to proceed.

An hour and a very reasonable (no, cheap) 250 baht later, I was back in the Kiwi bar for a couple of beers before heading back to Don Mueang.



Ignore what's on the glass, that's draft Leo, 119 baht a pint from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

All in all, a pleasant visit, and I'd certainly recommend Adelphi Suites, particularly for longer stays than my one night. There are cheaper places, and more expensive ones, but in terms of what's provided and comfort factor, it has to be value.

I particularly liked that the lift would only operate after inserting your room key card into the reader inside the lift. Good for security stopping people getting in (or out) unless bona fide.

Glad you liked it bro. I went through tons of BKK hotels and I just stay there now. Dont even have to look around and debate stuff. Its all there and good quality. Location, Restaurant, Parking, Spacious Rooms, Fast Internet, BTS, Meter Taxis, Etc...

Im kinda the opposite though, from like 1 to 3 days I will stay in Adelphi, but anything longer I look for something more reasonable. Gets expensive quick if Im not being reimbursed

Can I make recommendation?

You probably already know this, but if you hold your phone sideways then the video will end up full screen, instead of that narrow vertical type view.

Forgot to post this one. Whilst sitting in the Kiwi Bar, I noticed "Lolitas" in the small alley opposite. Apparently it's a BJ place, which made the adjacent sign quite ironic.....

But alas - I usually pursue an itinerary not unlike the fellow up there of baggy shorts fame. You know the script; booze, drugs, hookers, projectile puke, gutter.

Next time I'm staying at the Aldelphi and visiting a motor show.

Change of venue for me this trip. I have some business with Paul's Antiques in soi 13 so have decided to try the new Sofitel in the soi, shorter walk in the humid month of June.

It has a new owner now, Angela an American woman. She is married to a Thai lawyer. She speaks fluent Thai and deals with all my shipping etc. Real nice lady.

Enjoyed my few days in the Sofitel. Very comfortable accommodation. Excellent food and a good value seafood buffet.
Sign of the times at breakfast, the restaurant was packed, an urgent message was brought to me, when I enquiried how the lad knew it was for me he said 'only Englishman have newspaper for breakfast time, everyone else on their phone '
