Yes I remember the admittance policy being pretty exclusive.
Cheap Charlie's is a great place and its visitors are the result of natural selection. The dopes feel out of place there and leave of their own accord. The good guys enjoy each other's company and have a laugh. I love it but I am quite sure that the nutters would not last for longer than a small bottle of Chang.

^I only know it because it was a hangout for International School (ISB) teachers, including my ex-wife. ISB was just down the street, and my wife lived within a block.

I spent 95% of my time on the Thai-Cambodian border, but used to meet her there on occasion when I came into town.

How does that equate to not being tolerated?

I stay at the Nana Hotel and only drink regularly at two other places - Cheap Charlie's and Luke's Bar. The latter is the first bar on the right as one enters Nana Plaza and is one of the best "people watching" bars in the world.

I used to drink at Gullivers but the were too many unsavoury incidents of the sausage variety there.

    Sportsman's Bar is good too.

I lived on Soi 11 for a couple of years. Never enjoyed Cheap Charlies very much. There was a whorehouse above one of the shop houses around the soi though that was good for an afternoon tickle and slap.

Ok, so you have a 'blocklist' with 'nutters' you ignore, mention it/them in every second post and expect they fok off... yep, that's rational behaviour and a realistic expectation.

It's a place for informed people to gather,
before sneaking off to get their knobs polished round the corner.

Well, you're basically just standing in the soi ass to elbow holding a beer bottle. Can't say it did much for me but a bud of mine liked to go there before going out for the evening. In those days I would more often go down to Clinton Plaza for happy hour at one of the go-gos.

Only those in the know would have been familiar with position of a whorehouse on Sukhumvit. The rest of the world would not dream that such places could exist anywhere near there.

I had never heard of the place before you mentioned it. You must be very old.

It was knocked down in 2008. Seems to have been a pretty disreputable place and not the sort of venue that gentlemen would frequent.

Yeah, didn't last long, but wasn't expected to since it was installed on a development/building site.
I preferred Beergarden Soi7 and Thermae in them days.

Soi 7 is being redeveloped, even the new ThaiVisa HQ was taken down last year

won't be long before Soi 7 beer garden is shutdown,

they already close the Tunnel of Love, that ladyboy cut throat place between Soi 5 and Soi 7

These little back streets with character are what attracts tourists to the area, not a concrete jungle of condos and hotels. This seems to be a worldwide problem of redevelopment apart from the valley's of Wales which had no character in the first place and no one has the inclination to redevelop Slag heaps.
