    Sukhumvit breakfast report

The Craft Cafe under Phra Khanong BTS.

Nice enough place. But a "modern" concept tick-the-boxes breakfast.

Sure there was a fried egg, yes there were sausages (2) but they were the size on my middle finger, bacon yes two small pieces, tomatoe? yes (one slice!) , baked beans? Yes all 14 of them , i counted. Hash browns? No just a few french fries. Mushrooms? Yes about three pieces . Toast? well yes and no. Two small, garlic bread-like pieces.

So as I alluded to some corporately educated ( and notice i said educated rather than trained) person said what do we need for breakfast and made a list on Excel. Then to tick all the boxes decided how to achieve the goal with the least amount of expense and effort.

About 6.5 out of ten. 5 really but there are no "real" breakfast places between say soi 33 and maybe 101 /103.

    I will not bother again.

Madrid on Patpong is still my yardstick.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all
Those who cannot change their mind, cannot change anything.

When all else fails head further down Sukhumwit and enjoy the sheer bliss of breakfast at the Nana Hotel.

That strikes me as more suited to brunch or a hangover therapy.

For a decent breakfast in Bangkok, in comfort and air-conditioned quietude, I always headed for the Queen Victoria, Soi 23, around 1100hrs. Their bacon came from Bunters and they knew how to fry an egg properly. If I recall two fried eggs, bacon, French fries and grilled tomatoes with a pot of tea came in at around 250 baht which was always pleasing.

Funnily enough, an entirely different enterprise down in Pattaya which coincidentally shares the same name also serves the best breakfast in town.

^Looks fine AO. I can only take marks off for the lack of black pudding and tomato.

for those brits impoverished by the collapsing pound, and without the luxury of an index linked pension there is always the paupers paradise, "took lae dee", the diner style eatery at foodland on sukhumvit soi 5.

there, for around 100 baht you will be served a juice, a coffee, a couple of eggs, a sausage of sorts, a slice of bacon or ham a couple of mini slices of toast with butter and jam.

its not much fun, and your breakfast companions will be hook nosed ragheads reeking of stale tobacco, unshaven, baggy eyed and hungover falangs and those desperate and ugly whores still looking for an end of shift short time.

its grim and its greasy, but when austerity bites, its the place to go.

    bon appetite.

Once a week at most. About 11am. Coffee is all I normally have for breakfast.

You cannot have a proper breakfast with no sausages .
When they serve a breakfast without sausages, I usually bring my own along and ask them to cook them and add them to the breakfast, most places allow this and others do not .
I will be in Bangkok next week and I'll be going to Gullivers on soi 5 , does anyone know whether they have sausages in their breakfast, or should I bring my own ?
