I stayed in Pinklao for a while, but didn't find much in the way of nightlife. Not too many decent places to eat either, the little Thai restaurant under the Lumpini building ( on the Main Street beside the turning for the Overstay) was always good, even the GF liked it and she is pretty fussy about her Thai food. I would still head over the bridge to the KS area, but go to the street parallel to the river (Phra Arthit rd) it's popular with Thai students, several bars have live music and it's quite lively especially at weekends. Hemlock is a decent place to eat on that street, not as pricey as it looks. The flow on soi Samsen and of course Ranees restaurant near the KS are excellent. Never spent much time drinking on KS rd but there are a lot of cool bars in the surrounding area/streets.

Yep. Not much food outside of the tons of stalls along the road leading to Central. They aren't awful but not amazing. Typical Thai stuff I guess. Saw that restaurant @ Lumpini but haven't tried it yet. What are the prices like?

I've found a few decent places around KSR. Some good Indian places mostly.

Plan on heading to Phra Arthit (found a supposedly decent jazz bar over there) and maybe Isaan Tur Tur this weekend depending on if I can convince any friends to come with.

The restaurant is really cheap. There's a woman who sets up a stall around 4 pm directly outside the Pata's Tesco entrance selling bags of fresh mixed salad. Better and healthier than what's on offer in Tescos itself. I always liked Soi Samsen, especially the bars and restaurants between Soi 2 and Soi 4, it's mostly a farang crowd, some from the bigger hotels, some backpackers, some expats it's more chilled out than the KS road. The Nouvo hotel on Soi 2 has a great pool and gym (mostly unused) day pass is 300bht. Just walk in take the lift to the top floor and have look around, if you like what you see just ask for the pass and they will provide you with towels, locker etc

I went looking for Isaan Tur Tur the other day and it looks like it's been gutted and closed down. Can anyone confirm?

I lived around that area for years.

Under the bridge you have the big eat as much as you want for ?baht restaurant which is pretty good, cheap, etc.

Go down by Sirrirat (get the boat from that pier - takes 5 mins, or a 10 min bus down, or a 30 min walk, 50 baht in a taxi...) and you have great eateries in nice positions and cheap on the river there - I'd suggest the corner one that's on the upper floor and looks over the Grand Palace and down the river to Wat Arun - lovely around 6pm or so... The market there is also excellent, the best Gai Todd Haad Yai in Thonburi (usually sells out pretty quick, but the woman is there from about 2pm to 4pm?), lots of sweets and various really nice Thia foods in the road that runs prallel to the hospital down to the pier.

Go down Jarunsanitwong and you have endless massage/karaoke places, well ten or twenty along the road from say, soi 21? (opposite the big Honda dealer - where I bought my car...) for the next 3kms? 3 or 4 here, 3 or 4 there; 'hotels' with the drive-in curtain rooms just behind some of them, say around soi 41ish? If that's the kinda stuff you want... I was/am, married, so I sometimes popped in for a short beer then left, but there is more on offer if you want to go to the 'singing' rooms.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

    Hi there,

I've been living there for a couple of years, so :

ps : PM me for map links, i can't post URL and most of the places are hard to describe like this.

    Eating :
    *Mookata under the bridge pinklao
*Nice sushis on the way to Rama 8 bridge, just like 300m on the left after having turned at the red light from Pinklao
*Another mookata just on the right side on pinklao (when you head from KSR to borom), on the parralel street heading from rama VIII to Pinklao bridge
*Nice restaurants in the sense pinklao (Like king kong, 2nd floor, unlimited foreign food like lamb for 599 baht)
    * Average Pizzeria between Central Pinklao and the sense (along borom), called Alfredo pizza.

    Activities :
    * Major Cineplex Pinklao
    * Major Cineplex inside the central pinklao + bowling
    * Swiming pool (great one) near PATA pinklao
    * Nice SPA / restaurant / small swiming pool / Sauna right at the end of Borom 15
    * Fitness club inside Major cineplex

    Drinking :
    * Night club just near the chaopya hospital (after borom 21), cheap pools (20Baht), huge club with thai people only, nice food and relaxing outside (great outside bar)
    * Inside the sense pinklao, nice bar called T24 with belgium beers (Kwak, karmeliet) + draft hoegarden
    * On Charam (Direction rama VII bridge) you have an old gaz station converted into a nice bar at night (only thai), just like 500m after turning at the red light from Pinklao
    * A couple of nice small thai bars along borom, a few hundreds meters after Central Pinklao

    Buying :
    * Cental / The sense pinklao / Tesco Lotus + the small tesco lotus under Pata for everything
    * Pata pinklao (cheap + IT stuff in there + 20 Baht shop inside at the ground floor)
    * Makro on Charam sanitwon (direction south) + Food land opposite side
    * Motorbike accessories (big bike) shop in Borom soi 2
    * New foodland near borom 10

    Markets :
    * Talad naam ron, just above the bridge Arum amarin
    * Pra nok market, same as the market above but keep straight on the bridge and turn right at the first red light, then turn left at the 2nd red light and you will see the market 300 meters after on the left (nice market)
    * Dontknowthesamemarket ! On the direction to rama VIII bridge (from pinklao) keep driving 600 meters after having turned on the red light and on the left you will see, 300meter after the intersection (on the left) heading to the back of the small tesco / pata, you will see a small bridge, stop there, the market is along the river (you got to walk near the small bridge)

More coming, that's all i remember for now.

Drinking options after midnight? The Thai bars I've seen close up around midnight. I know about The Overstay already. I've seen karaoke bars, but I've been told they don't allow farang. Where else is there?

mmm you can go either inside the club Pho Kung pao which close around 2-3 am or inside another club on sirindhon road just near the new Thanghuasen.

Also there's the nice rooftop at the sense, i'm quite sure it close after midnight too but it's more like an highso bar, a bit pricy but the Nepalese manager and staff are great.
