    Bangkok Nightlife Midnight Curfew.

Bangkok nightlife said to be on midnight curfew until further notice

While the Buddhist holiday of Makha Bucha is over Thursday, the usual prohibitions on nightlife may just be beginning.

Bangkok police will order all nightlife and entertainment venues, parties and events to call it a night by midnight for the next two weeks, according to a number of organizers, promoters and owners who've been notified by police.

The alleged order will apply across the board to everything in the capital, they believed, from nightclubs on Soi Sukhumvit 11 and RCA to events such as the big Maya EDM party to be staged Saturday night on army-owned property.

A nightclub owner, event promoter and party organizer independently claimed to have been informed there would be no exceptions to the midnight entertainment curfew but that it would last for about two weeks starting this weekend. They did not want to be quoted or identified.

Between midnight and 1am early Wednesday morning, groups of army and police personnel visited a number of nightlife venues to order them closed. While such visits are normal on the eve of a religious holiday, several reportedly included warnings of the closing time to be imposed.

No ready explanation was available, and a response from police was not immediately available.
However in recent weeks city police have been under pressure and under fire from the military, who've sought to shake up the ranks with summary transfers and accusations of negligence following army raids of illegal businesses apparently operating openly under the noses of police.

In this past week police officials were placed on a defensive footing after officers were transfered and investigated following publicized raids by soldiers of illegal casinos. Since then they've made a show of proactive policing, such as in Tuesday's publicized raid of a Din Daeng district cockfighting ring.

I'm guessing the mongers that frequent the "entertainment" venues will happy fuck off to Pattaya.

If you can't get drunk and pick up a whore by midnight in Bangkok if that's your thing then there's probably not much hope for you anyway.

That should only take about 5 minutes, in most instances.

For finding a whore agreed, maybe a tad longer to get drunk but still can't see the issue with midnight closing. Majority of bars where I live in the UK still close at 11pm.

BB Does the place you live, attract 5 million tourists every year, and those people come to holiday and have fun.?

If you went to skeggie on your hols and the bars closed every night at 12, would you go back.?

My days of late drinking are behind me, very rarely I'm out much after 9-10pm if go out for a drink, was same when was holidaying in Cornwall and Tenerife last year so a midnight closing doesn't bother me. Surely midnight is late enough for everyone to get loaded, if not just go out earlier.

BB i take it you've never visited Thailand, the tourists and locals are just warming up around that time.

The average age of tourists these days is not 55 yrs old.

Thailands already saw a 10% decrease in tourists this year, they've just seen there first increase, its still high season, bars close early they tell all friends back home has a knock on effect.

I lived in Thailand for 10 years, both Bangkok and over on the darkside in Pattaya and yes used to have quite a few all night sessions but would it have bothered me if the bars had shut at midnight, not at all, in fact I'd probably have appreciated not feeling like shit so much the next day.

You are talking out of your arse.

Tourism accounts for approximately 8 - 9 % of Thailand's GDP or thereabouts. Of the total arrivals the greatest numbers are now from China and ASEAN countries,

The greater majority are tour group members and family visitors.

Statistically, the fact that bars and clubs may close at midnight will have as much impact upon them as a fart in a hurricane.

Don't even think it's that high, used to be 5-6% of GDP although what's a few % points here and there, the point being I agree that it's not as high as many people believe it is. Thailand's economy is export driven which accounts for 60% of GDP.

Yes you are correct, my % was incorrect though if you take other factors into consideration related to tourism, you would find 20% is not far off the mark.
