Ancient Siam park is in the shape of Thailand, and has models (often to a similar size as the originals) for most of the country's landmarks and historical sites. It's a great way for tourists who haven't the time to travel the whole of Thailand to get a taste of what the kingdom has to offer.

How to get to Ancient Siam?

I've been there twice, drove the first time, and the second time we took the BTS to the final station on the Sukhumvit line. From there a taxi for the final 14km will be quite cheap, this is a far better option than driving along Sukhumvit like I did the first time. Just tell the driver to go to 'Mueang Boran'. It's about 14km down on the left hand side.

Ancient Siam Admission: 500b for Johnny Foreigner. Though I paid the Thai price of 200b as I had my Thai Driving License with me.

There's a free tramcar that can take you around and stops off at various temples and sites, which is good, and we did it the first time. But the better option is to rent out a golf buggy which is a lot of fun. We did this the second time when I had some family with us. I think it was about 300b an hour. IIRC we were out there 2 1/2 hours and it cost 750b for that time.

Prasat Hin Phi Mai, or Phanom Rung?

The Wats there are pretty amazing in their detail. Pretty much the exact same as genuine ones.



I think everybody who goes is surprised at the size of the models!



There's lots of wooden houses there, done up in traditional settings, there's even a few villages. Amazing really.

Nice one CM. Been a long time since I've been there , will check it out again in the cool season. Great place to take visiting friends and relatives.

As for yourself , too many square meals have left you looking very pixilated !

I'm not so sure. When I go for a salad it's a Caprese, heavy on the mozzarella and olive oil please.

My daughter and I go there every now and then as it's not too far from my house.
We normally go early on a sunday morning (we pay thai price as well) , and as you know , if you don't want to rent the golf buggy , bicycle rental is included in the admission price.
Only problem is my backside is so friggin sore after a couple of hours on the bike , I have to stand and ride the last few hundred meters.

Yes, the bikes are a bit rough. Last visit , I took what I thought was a bit of time and care selecting my mount. Ms Bangyai just grabbed the nearest.
My one disintegrated right at the back of the park and I had to walk it back whereas Ms Bangyais proved to be o.k. .............. Sods law at work.

Do the sights have signs in English?

I'll be riding my motocycle from Pattaya. Can visitors explore the grounds on their own moto or motorcycle...or the golf cart, bicycles or walking the main options other than using a tour guide?

^ It's been a while since I've been there but I believe they all have English signs.

You cannot take your motorbike in, but you can take your car.

I imagine the security at night have one hell of a blast racing their bikes around there once everyone is gone.

Update:
I went last week, with two other bike riders from Pattaya.

The tourist price is still 500-Bt...but price for Thai's and farangs with a Thai license is now 350-Bt.

We rented a 2-person golf cart (150-By/hour) and the had no objections with us using it with 3 passengers. The also have 4-seat carts (300-Bt/hour) and 6-seat carts (450-Bt/hour).
Yep, the place is spectacular. Of the many majestic sights I was surprised to see a replica of the Cambodian temple [yes, it _is_ Cambodian] Preah Vihear. The mountain replica is maybe 100-meters+ tall, with the temple at the top. Two different stairs allow hikes to the top. There structure is actually a shell, supported by a labyrinth of columns insider the exterior facade.




We also went to Phanat Nikhom and saw a display of dozens of enormous replicas of woven baskets which are commonly seen in Thailand. Rice baskets, fishing traps, storage baskets, etc. This display is surely not on the tourist trail!

how do you get a Thai Driving license? Does someone have to "vouch" or "warranty" you?

^ You just go the local DoLT with either a Work Permit or a Cert. of Residence. Do a search. First one is for one year, on renewal you get 5 years.
