I'm looking forward to this one.
I have only been mustering once and yes I agree, awesome and scary.
Its a pity that having a second person in a r22 slows down the chopper so much otherwise there would have to be a great tourism venture possibility there!
Speaking of weight this is an email I got last night from the pilot.
"I've just done a rough weight check, and it looks like I'll have to send the luggage pods back on a truck because they will weigh too much. We won't be able to carry full fuel either because with Full fuel, and the 3 of us with no luggage at all we will have about 5 to 15kg of luggage between us and be at the maximum take off weight.
So keep jogging and just bring a change of dacks in a plastic bag!!:-) I'll catch you about it tomorrow.
Cheers"
Well we spoke tonight and I am back to a 10kg baggage limit and I can stop jogging! He managed to send a few other things back with the pods to gain a little more weight.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.
MeMock,
You are known as talking ballast in the trade
Does that mean I am talking bollocks (ballast)?

That's about two six packs each for a 3.5 day trip.
Need to change the plans slightly.
Update for today:
The pilot is now indeed a pilot as he flew solo for the first time. Did three circuits in the rain he said and all went well.
Apparently our cruise speed will be 190 to 200 kph and we can travel up to 2.5 hours per tank. I forgot to ask if it is a raven 1 or 2, sorry Thetyim.
Has it got aircon ?
Only the Raven 2 has the option.
Have you sat in it yet?
I read that photography is a tad difficult because lack of suitable windows
Aircon? Stuffed if I know, I was just gonna wind the window down
I haven't even seen it as it only just arrived in Sydney from the USA a few weeks ago. I fly into Sydney the night before we leave.
Have you seen this ?
Gives a new meaning to Fly Fishing
They use an R44 which carries 4 pax + all their gear
Heli-fishing in New Zealand's South Island with Trout Fishing Services
Yes, they have done that for years in Kununurra and other places. Flying keen fisherman into remote spots to catch huge barramundi.
In fact a flight 3 years ago in Kununurra did just hat but on the way home they crashed and all four on board were killed. I went out to take photos for the paper
The inquest into their death found they were overloaded and had an inexperienced pilot flying. The pilot was the bosses son.
So this is what I went up in.
Nice view of my new 'home town'
Saw a shark
and my house
It was good fun. It was a 30 minute ride and I got to fly for about half of that. The stick is so sensitive it took a while to get used to it but after a few minutes managed to do a few turns and then get some speed up for the trip back to the airport.
You're at The Mount Memock...certainly no problem taking pics from that chopper...
I am sorry Mr Memock but we cannot give you a refund.
The Robinson R22 doesn't come with rocket pods
East or west coast MM? Guessing from the angle of the dangle it might be east?Originally Posted by MeMock

I think youll have the trip of a lifetime. If I remember correctly the pilot of that helicopter crash video was not a trained pilot. He never took any approved lessons and had purchased the chopper and refused a checkout. Rather cocky I would say. Helicopters are like prostitutes. No visable means of support.
Have a good trip
Thanks pieman.
Well I leave for Sydney tomorow morning and then leave for Kununurra Tuesday morning.
Depending on what time we get away we hope to make charliville that night. En route we will pass through nyngen to take some photos of some property my father has just purchased.
Having a 10kg bag limit will be hard to organise. Once a camera and video camera is packed it doesn't leave much room for a 10 day trip!
I have lost 2kg last week, I wonder if that means I can now bring 12kg?
The pilot finished all his hours yesterday and has today off before sitting his exam tomorrow. I hope he passes otherwise the trip will be off.
So MM just phoned me from Sydney Airport...
Apparently they gave him a "special" search on his arrival
Anyways he's just informed me they are heading off in the morning with the sun on their tail if all goes to plan. He also said he has no laptop due to the weight restrictions which will be a real challenge as he has NEVER left home without it before. What this does mean however is we have 4 to 5 days to take the mickey out of him
wow great adventure hope you have a really good trip
safe travel memock! will keep an eye on the weather map and think about your adventure with envy!
I (along with everyone else) am really looking forward to the pics. Spectacular country up that way.
Looking forward to this.
Cimboc, keep the reports coming mate, really looking forward to hearing all about this one, and envious as hell.
