As the deadline for the ban on climbing Uluru looms, queues of more than 1000 people have snaked up the monolith. Exploiting the last school holidays before the world-famous climb closes on October 26, families have travelled from around the country and overseas in the hope of making a final dash for the summit

^There is an invisible magic rainbow serpent who gets offended if people climb the rock

The traditional owners are considering a compromise that if you bring a magic inflatable rainbow unicorn talisman to appease the magic rainbow serpent that you might still be allowed to climb

Bathurst 1000 2019: Jamie Whincup explains shock Practice 5 crash

Jamie Whincup is confident the Red Bull Holden Racing Team can get his car out for qualifying despite a Practice 5 crash.
Late in the session, as Whincup crested Skyline, Richie Stanaway had just sent his #33 Boost Mobile ZB Commodore into the tyre barriers. Whincup avoided Stanaway’s stricken car, but slid offline and crashed in the entry to the Dipper.

The session was red-flagged as both cars were collected, with Scott McLaughlin lowering his own practice/qualifying lap record in the 60-minute hitout.

Explaining the incident, Whincup said he tried to take off as much speed as he could.

However, being out in the marbles at such pace left him exposed to the eventual accident.

“I saw Richie go in as I came over Skyline,” Whincup said on the broadcast.

“If you look at it on TV it all looks pretty flat there, but it’s massively downhill.

“I just tried to scrub off as much speed as I possibly could while going around him … going around means you’re in the marbles as well.

“It hit the wall. Not massive, I’ve had a lot worse … smashed the front-left corner.”

The four-time Bathurst winner was the fastest in Practice 1 on Thursday morning, and gave his team as much feedback as he could on the damage before it was returned to the garages.

“Rear has got the camber knocked off it, but hopefully it’s not transaxle or anything like that,” said Whincup when describing the damage to the car.

“I’m pretty confident we’ll be out for qualifying. I tried to give the boys as much info as I could so we can start preparing.

“It’s broken a front-upright, front wishbones, trailing arm. There’s no fluid anywhere so radiator looks intact.

“The front splitter is smashed across and it just looks like a rear trailing arm at the back as well.”

The 40-minute qualifying gets underway at 4:00pm AEDT.

Suzi Taylor: Australia reality TV star 'extorted' Tinder date

An Australian reality TV show contestant has been arrested for allegedly assaulting her Tinder date and extorting money from him.

Suzi Taylor, 49, demanded money after arranging through the dating app to meet the man at a Brisbane house on Wednesday, police said.

When he refused to pay, another man allegedly entered the room and assaulted the 33-year-old victim.

Ms Taylor appeared on a hit home renovations show, The Block, in 2015.

On Thursday, she and a 22-year-old man were arrested and charged with extortion, assault, deprivation of liberty and other offences.

According to Queensland Police, the pair had held the victim against his will and forced him to transfer money into a bank account.

They also allegedly stole his bank card and made a cash withdrawal. Neither amount was made public by police.

Authorities also did not detail whether the victim had suffered injuries or whether Ms Taylor had met him previously.

Ms Taylor was refused bail by a court on Friday and will face another hearing on 25 November.

She and a friend won A$349,000 (£185,000; $240,000) on The Block, a long-running show on the local Nine Network.

The court heard Ms Taylor, a former Penthouse model....

The court heard Ms Taylor was on Monday charged over an unrelated incident, including burglary and trespassing.

She is also facing a number of unrelated traffic offences from last month, including drink driving, providing a false name to police and obstructing officers by attempting to remove her handcuffs.

Ms Taylor, whose full name is Sue Ellen Jan Taylor, had her back turned to the media as she sat in the dock, hiding her face.

Man dies escaping custody near Gosford Hospital after plunging 10 metres vaulting wall

An inmate from a New South Wales central coast prison has died after falling 10 metres while trying to escape custody.

Corrective Services NSW said the 20-year-old man from the Kariong Correctional Centre was being transported from Gosford Hospital on Tuesday night when he broke free from two prison guards.

Corrective Services said the man jumped a 1.5-metre-high wall and fell down the 10-metre drop on the other side.

Australia: British backpackers complain they can't find work

A pair of professional body piercers who are covered in tattoos and have split tongues have complained they can't find work in Australia.

The British backpacking couple took to social media to ask for help finding jobs, but many on Facebook weren't so sympathetic.

The pair also do body suspension together – an extreme form of body modification where a person is strung up with large hooks through their flesh.

BULLSHITE ... Heaps of work available if they go looking for it.

The Bush/Farm are constantly crying out for Fruit Pickers.

But that's probably too hard work for their sensitive souls.
