The Fight for Free Speech ... and when that line is crossed

Now, unless you are an Aussie, this thread will probably mean nothing to you.

In Australia we have a wonderfull, Government Funded, independent (slightly left leaning ... but I'm cool with that ... I'm slightly right leaning) employing a broad church of Employees called the ABC the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

In that group they have gay, straight, asian, white, black, christian, muslin, non-believers, female, male, feminists, traditionalists, etc, etc ... you name it, they employ them.

Sometimes, just sometimes they hire someone who oversteps that invisible line.

There is one, as soon as she appeared, I reached for the TV remote for ANYTHING else except her.

It was something I couldn't explain. I've had a Persian GF so it wasn't racially based ... she just really irked me.

Then she did the unthinkable ...

In a FaceBook post she wrote ...

Then apparently, she went onto Q n A and defended Sharia Law ... I didn't see that, relying on others observations.

    F*ck this bitch ...

Well, recently, she paid the price for overstepping that invisible line.
The ABC has cut Yassmin Abdel-Magied’s TV Show, Australia Wide.
    Preparing for ...

    .
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

    ^^She really is unbearable.

I could not watch her on Q&A

I have heard the same opinion from a few other people.

If she has hoist herself by her own petard with the despicable diggers disparagement then I am a happy camper.

Instead at coming back at me, assuming I didn't have a wider understanding of the subject ... why didn't you research it yourself.

    I said I didn't watch that episode of Q n A.

Here she is after that episode of Q n A, again, trying to defend her views, this time on following Sharia Law.

Any doubts ... she says that she follows Sharia Law at the 2.20 mark

I will take your word that she does.

I cannot bear to watch or listen to her for a nano-second.

Well the term 'Sharia Law' implies that it has a jurisdiction.

But sharia law has no jurisdiction in Australia or any other secular nation so you could say it is il-legal

It should be called Sharia guidelines.

Nev, my personal view is in line with what the majority of Australians thought when they read her comments posted above.

I'll give another insite into what Yassmin Abdel-Magied penned only the other day ...
“Who is anyone to tell me what it means to be Australian?” she asked.
“The only people that have the rights to this land are indigenous people.
So if it’s an indigenous person saying to me ‘girl, take a step back,’ then I will listen to that."
Which is a bit rich coming from a Sudanese person born in the 1990's

    What happened in Sudan then?
The decade of the 1990s also saw a "top down" Islamisation of Sudan under the National Islamic Front and Hasan al-Turabi.
    Education was overhauled to focus on the glory of Arab and Islamic culture, and memorizing the Quran;
school uniforms were replaced with combat fatigues and students engaged in paramilitary drills.

Religious police in the capital ensured that women were veiled, especially in government offices and universities.

A relaxed political culture became much harsher, with human rights groups alleging a proliferation of torture chambers
known as "ghost houses" used by security agencies.

The war against the non-Muslim south was declared a jihad.[12] [13] On state television, actors simulated "weddings"
between jihad martyrs and heavenly virgins (houris) on state television. Turabi also gave asylum and
assistance to non-Sudanese jihadi, including bin Laden and other Al Qaeda members.[12]
    Wiki
She has also spoken this memorable statement ... “Islam, to me, is one of the most ... is the most, feminist religion, right?”

Many may disagree with that comment.
    .
Let's have this statement clearly heard ... this is not a Muslin / Christian debate.
    .
The OP is about a woman who has attempted to use her public profile to advance a line which extremely disconnected with what the majority of Australians hold close to their hearts.

We have heard her opinion and rejected it.

Quite right. The White occupation of Australia is a result of murder and genocide. You people should be ashamed of yourselves.

Dr B0b ... if only you were there for the Battle of Hastings

The Norman conquest of England would have never happened and the English would have been true English, not the a mix of the Vikings
who immigrated in the 10th century to where we know today as Normandy (France) who then went on to invade England, ( the Battle of Hastings)
kill the English King Harold and let their genes pollute England ever since ...

    But we digress.

Feel free to open an OP on the Battle of Hastings or the current cultural mix and demographics of Australia.

In the mean time, this thread is about Yassmin Abdel-Magied, born in Sudan, but now calls Australia home ...

They thought that it was disrespectful, on the day of remembrance, to hijack the remembrance phrase to highlight her unrelated political grievances.

I suppose the lesson from this for some, if it wasn't clear already, is that there is no "free speech" in Australia. I expect most of us on TD already knew that.

(In case you think I'm having a pop at Australia , I'm not. There's no free speech in the UK either - and none in Germany, none in Austria, none in France, etc.)

The media calling someone disrespectful is on a par with Jeffrey Dahmer calling somebody a little strange.

"Free speech and when that line is crossed". What she wrote may be offensive to some but it's hardly a major (or even minor) breach of the right to free speech. FFS what a bunch of pansies some of you are. Untwist your knickers, ladies, and admit that what really pisses you off is some darky immigrant bint giving you cheek!

Oh, I know this one. You're thin skinned so you assume I'm thin skinned too. You are going to try to say something about my birth country, Ireland, which you think will make me break down in girly tears. This will be about the 1000th time someone's tried that on TD. Off you go. Knock yourself out.
