They thought that it was disrespectful, on the day of remembrance, to hijack the remembrance phrase to highlight her unrelated political grievances.
The media calling someone disrespectful is on a par with Jeffrey Dahmer calling somebody a little strange.
    It was not the media.

It was common public opinion of her poor decision to take the remembrance phrase and use it to spam her non-related political grievances, and to do it on the day of remembrance.

Oh, I know this one. You're thin skinned so you assume I'm thin skinned too. You are going to try to say something about my birth country, Ireland, which you think will make me break down in girly tears. This will be about the 1000th time someone's tried that on TD. Off you go. Knock yourself out.
    Actually No.

I used to live in Galway and have a great fondness for the Irish ... on both sides of the Border.

I assumed, now wrongly, that you were a Pom after reading your OP about the Thai Temple in London during Songkran.

    Apologies for any confusion.

As someone who comes from the civilized world, I can't really make sense of the complaints against her but they seem to boil down to the fact that she said something which made a bunch of other people unhappy. Is that about it? There's some holy mark on the sacred surface of the Australian soul and someone (a dark-skinned woman, no less) failed to act with the appropriate degree of reverence toward it, right? If so, burn her at the fucking stake. Bitch.

And then don't forget to complain about 112, lefties on American campuses shutting Milo out of speaking engagements, political correctness, liberal snowflakes, safe spaces, etc. etc. etc.

Common public opinion? How many of the 24 million people in Australia complained? Got a link to the statistics?

Jeezus Bob, ever been to OZ? Maybe spend some time here. I can tell you from my circle of friends that all were angry about her comment. Australians (in Australia) don't have a flag outside every house. In fact its a rarity. We are not overtly patriotic but we have ANZAC day and Australia day when we are.
We have one day a year dedicated to our own where we commemorate their sacrifice and another to be proud of what we have built here in 200 years and many of us recognise that our history has warts in it as well. There's another 364 days to think about the rest of the world.
Have you ever spent time in the UK? I am amazed at the number of Irish that are still pissing and moaning about the UK but spend most of their lives living there or some other country settled by the Brits. FFS get that chip off of your shoulder and move on. It's clouding your judgement......................................Iri shness.
