I am assuming Terry that you do not have a SMSF, if you do - then to gain the benefits you have to spend 183 days per annum in Australia. Therefore those in that position loving or loathing Oz have to be there for 6 months regardless.

I go Perth regularly and have noticed it is now quite expensive.

Sad to see it but Australia is making herself incompetitive for now, much in a way of europe, though Aus has a future and europe has none.

To me it looks like a bit that the income from great minerals boom when China bought everything has not been properly invested. When AUD hit the tops against USD. I am great friend of Australia (except Darwin) and hope for the best. But as things go...

However, like in Perth, there are free city bus lines I like, sort of sign of advanced society, paid by your tax dollars.

The misconception, nothing's free, taxes, fares what's the difference?

Yeah well, I want my tax money spent on libraries, public transport relieving traffic jams, health care, law and order. Now they are using it to whatever....

Australian debt is not a problem compared to euros. But they should have dealt with it while the economy was strong.

Hi I have the 1 year working holiday visa. I am told I can extend it for another year if I do agricultural work for a three month period.
Also I have just done my offshore survival ticket and NDT certificates, I am told perth has good opportunities in this field. I also have my class 1 HGV driving licence.

You do not need a work permit , however you will be limited to the amount of work you may do and the occupations also .

Re , Ag , tis true and you will find yourself in jobs / areas that employers have trouble filling with locals .

    Enjoy your holiday .

I was wondering about what you have mentioned as I only retired end of September last year and come September 2014 would of only spent maybe 6 weeks back in Perth.

Only plan to return to Perth for 1 month a year to sort out my business. Suppose I must book an appointment with the Dole office to sort out this SMSF you're on about.

Don't get me wrong though, Australia's a brilliant place but its just getting stupid regards prices and its a big world out there to play in without being bogged down in Australia's system.

I'm back there on Friday for 2 weeks and that will cost me a nice wedge.

Lets start with $140 return airfare from the airport to my gaff.

    Same ride in Bangkok. $15.

    Actually here is another comparison.

When I return to Bali after my fishing trip back in Perth I've taken a monthly lease on a bungalow 1 K from the beach for $ 24 AUD a night including breakfast, Aircon, fridge, Sat TV, Internet and a very nice pool.

To park my shitty Caravan on a dirt sight with no power will be much more than this back in Australia.

Once I hit the tourist town of Coral bay they will charge me $40 for the dirt sight without power. ????

One must ask the question why in fact is Australia so fuked up. ?

It aint F***** up Terry. Just expensive.

With regards to the SMSF and living overseas, I have one and have lived overseas for a few years. I don't claim to know too much about them but I am sure that as long as you organise a proxy to sign things off for you that lives in Australia and you keep an Australian address for correspondence then you will be fine.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

Of course Australia ain't fuked up, I just say that because of the stupid pricing of everything.

Funny thing is that the people who have nothing seem to be doing OK on the back of the working man who pays a huge amount of tax.

Social system is quite generous back in Australia innit.

Anyway I have a permanent address back in Perth and am only traveling really.

Never cut ties with Australia, one would be a raving nut case to do that.

I love the Idea that I can walk back in whenever I feel like it, makes my life very easy and care free.

If I want to go back I just give my tenants notice and walk straight back in.

    Brilliant that innit.

Hey, while I'm on that point.

The saddest bunch of tossers on this forum are the throttlers who have cut their ties with their own country and now hate living in Thailand and post how fuked up the Thais are. ???????

I mean what a bunch of all time losers this lot are EH .

I read that ALL car factories are leaving Australia, stuck with China for income.

Any English country including Canada has Way to many strong unions and always on strike. I would take up a motorhome bathroom full of Coors beer to BC, with a group
of scca racers and border patrol never went thru race rigs. Sold beer for 3 times what was in USA. and much better beer. I learned my lesson then and now see Canada has lost most of car manufacture for US companies. They don't know a thing about
how to be competitive in a world mkt.
I spend $300. for guest house in Pattaya, 3.00 for new motorcycle, sit on walking street talking to girls on beach side while listening to live music across st.
while sipping on a 80 cent beer from 7/11. Give girls ride on bike home get free rub down on the way. can't beat that with a stick. Love Thailand. ($1000. a month)

Yep, I'm with you all the way on that one mate.

Pattaya ain't my go but Thailand has enough room for all tastes.

A spot for all of us.

Some even choose to live in Issan.

Never stop banging the racist drum Eh Willy.

I just love it when a poster who lives over seas bleats on about Aussies being racists.

Specially Willy, as he knows that it simply ain't true.

Actually I was thinking today what the average Balinese would do if afforded all the social security that the Australian natives receive. ?

The answer came to me in a milli-second.

The Balinese would be putting their kids through school, improving their life style and generally improving their life.

What do the Australian indigenous do ?

Piss it all up against the wall and cause havoc in the society in general.

Yes Willy, we are all racist in Australia.

You know what the average Balinese is doing right now Tel? Selling their ricefields and livelyhoods to developers. Not enough ground water left in parts or Bali but that hasnt stopped the explosion of villas...
