1979 I was living in France at the time.
Gainsbourg was often on the TV - never sober.
Aux Armes et Cetera was his reggae 'version' of La Marseillaise
This didn't go down well with a section of the French public.
On his tour in support of the album I recall him receiving threats from Legionnaires/paratroopers that if he were to play this in their town they would shoot him.
I believe he found it difficult to get a backing band together for that tour
