The Mountains of Mourne
The lyrics to the song "The Mountains of Mourne" were written by musician Percy French. (1 May 1854 – 24 January 1920)
The song is representative of French's many works concerning the Irish diaspora. The Mourne Mountains of the title are located in County Down in present-day Northern Ireland.
The song is a whimsical look at the styles, attitudes and fashions of late nineteenth century London as seen from the point of view of an Irish labourer from a village near the Mountains of Mourne. It is written as if the singer is sending a message to his true love back home. The "sweep down to the sea" refrain was inspired by the view of the mountains from Skerries in north County Dublin.
It contrasts the artificial attractions of the city with the more natural beauty of his homeland.

Bagatelle are an Irish rock band that first formed in August 1978. They are known for their popular pop hits such as "Second Violin", "Leeson Street Lady" and "Summer in Dublin", their best known song.
The band formed in Bray, Wicklow, Ireland. Fellow Irish musician Bono commented on the impact that Bagatelle had on U2 in the early days of their career. Larry Mullen, of the same band, once famously said that he used to call them "Baga-Money", in reference to their fame, and that he wished that his band could be as successful as Bagatelle.
Although the band never attained international acclaim, they remain a hugely popular band in their home nation of Ireland. However, the hit "Second Violin" was such a success in Uruguay that today it remains popular.

The song tells of the meeting of two great chess players, one Soviet and one American, in Bangkok. Chess is a musical production that uses a US-USSR chess rivalry as a metaphor for the Cold War, but this song just contains double-ententes about the game of Chess compared to the Bangkok nightlife. The example often used is "I would invite you, but the queens we use would not excite you.
