read his book "waging heavy peace".

likely late 60's, he moved to california to try and find a band, or some decent gigs....can't remember. anyways, he was still a struggling dirt poor artist.

he writes were he met this guy and some girls who were with him. strange people, very quiet. he gave the guy his guitar who played and sang some songs, said the guy wasn't too bad.

    guess who?

    charles manson.

I saw the old Canadian Neil Young at Hyde park, London on Saturday night, He played with Crazy Horse. A fantastic set by them which blew the warm up band, The National - a very poor U2 cover band, back to nursery school - where they belong.

You had to be heavy into rock and roll guitar to really appreciate Neil Young. He developed a finger pricking style that really good up and coming guitarists had to perfect before they could consider themselves more than journeymen (I never did consider myself more than a journeyman). He also had a mean rock and rock guitar sound when he chose to, Problem usually was he also into folk and country and most fans aren't into every aspect of his repertoire.

Koojo a whiny prick.. sounds about right. Woof! Now I'll get redded..waaa

I wouldn't say Neil was country, but rock and folk for sure. One of the classic legends imo.

Great song by the way! Dad and bro's play a mean rendition of that song.

Heart of Gold and Damage Done mentioned in this thread are my favorites.

    Heart of Gold

    Damage Done

    Other faves include,
    -Harvest Moon
    -Old Man
    -Keep on Rockin'
-Hey, Hey, My, My (Into the Black)
    -Cinammon Girl
    -Down by the River

And a more recent tune.. Angry World.

    Bastard Spicks.

    "Cortez The Killer"

He came dancing across the water
    With his galleons and guns
    Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun.

    On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls he often wondered
With the secrets of the worlds.

    And his subjects
    gathered 'round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see.

And the women all were beautiful
    And the men stood
    straight and strong
    They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on.

    Hate was just a legend
    And war was never known
    The people worked together
    And they lifted many stones.

    They carried them
    to the flatlands
And they died along the way
    But they built up
    with their bare hands
What we still can't do today.

And I know she's living there
And she loves me to this day
    I still can't remember when
Or how I lost my way.

He came dancing across the water
    Cortez, Cortez
    What a killer.
