    Classic Movies

Seminal film-noir with Fred MacMurray as the insurance salesman caught in a web of murder and betrayal. The tension is built up expertly in this firecraker plot.

Great performances from Barbara Stanwyck with Edward G Robinson's claims adjuster providing the perfect foil.

    10/10

Classics can be different for different people. I just watched 'Harold and Maude' and found it quite something. As a child, I remember it being exciting because of the kid always trying to 'kill' himself but saw it in a different way this time.

I'll pick one less cited as a classical great. Fine performances by all. Well written with many subplots. A wonderful blend of action, drama, comedy and romance.

Photography and scenes excellent especially given it was released in 1939. Sam Jaffe, as Gunga Din, stole the show from a star studded cast and didn't receive near the acclaim he should have. Note his name doesn't even appear on the poster even though he is the title character.

A must see if you haven't and well worth another look if you have.

    Casablanca - 1942

I watched this tonight for the first time.

Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in a drama about refugees trying to flee the Nazis from a jumping off point in French Morocco.

More classic quotable movie lines than you can shake a stick at.

Not my favourite film noir but one of the good ones.

Just seen this excellent comedy/drama noir recently. Norma Desmond is a reclusive and aging silent movie star who lives in the past. The flamboyant Norma ensnares a young penniless writer not only to write for her but to reassure her of her attractiveness. Gloria Swanson and William Holden star.

Rates right up there with Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Surely it is we who must be the weirdos as neither one of us has eaten linguini in white clam sauce from naked Korean ladies buttholes.

Well at least I haven't though we both agree on Casablanca's pedigree status.

Damn, what time is it where you are? I'm sorry if I spoiled your lunch. (Just joking.)

You haven't lived. I daresay you haven't tried sushi off nekkid Malays, either. It tastes much the same.

    Anyway-

    From Here to Eternity

A good one. Maybe not quite Casablanca, but still well worthy.

    Sunset Boulevard(1950)
Sorry to say, but I rewatched that film quite recently- and thought it was crap.
Nostalgia for the silent era I suppose, but it totally did not work on this viewer.

An easy 9/10. I have pictures of my Dad in Schofield barracks several years before the period depicted in the movie. He was a teenage enlisted soldier and a bugler there from 1937 until he obtained an appointment to West Point, entering the Academy in June 1939. Always think of the pictures of him in his campaign hat with his bugle when I watch this movie.

Yes I had my normal movie review hat on and was just measuring objectively how much I enjoyed it as a movie which is not really fair since modern movies are more sophisticated in terms of plot, cinematography, script etc.

As a classic from 1942 it deserves a another point or 2.

But Double Indemnity and Cape Fear are more my style of film noir. They are both 10/10 for me.
