There really should be a John Cooper Clake thread

    So here it is

    Clarke not Clake

I was gonna ask a mod to intervene, but I quite like Clake and I'm sure he would too

Performance poet John Cooper Clarke has given fans a preview of his newest work.

The so-called bard of Salford chose BBC North West Tonight as the platform for the premiere of his latest poem, Look In Any Junkyard.

Dr Cooper Clarke burst onto the punk scene in the 1970s and shared a producer with Joy Division.

The 75-year-old is set to take to the stage at Manchester's Co-Op Live in March, becoming the first poet to headline at an arena.

Followed JCC for many years, ever since seeing him a Leeds Uni back in the mid 70's.
He has a great way with words. Don't forget his band "The invisible girls"

Lovely saw him once too a real treat and still going , his rasping tones identical to a pal from teh same place , his witty rhymes and innovative use of language have been an inspiration.

He in a great a great tradition from Shakespeare, Sterne, Through to canadian Stephen Leaccok , Dunleavy , Pratchett, Moorcock and Blake of playing with language and delivering unalloyed pleasure.

In a very different style both Johnny Vegas and my dear pal Bob Mortimer do the same and of course Frankie Howard and Stanley Unwin who sounded like Wubba Johnnies on acid . There was wonderful fella now long deceased called Liam McCran who could keep a whole pub in fits for hours way back in the 60s and 70s , these days he'd be a star he had the dry wit of Connor Booze O'Brien and Dave Allen with the mischievous spritely fun of our own drear Baldprick.
