I agree but the problem with judging art is it's subjective.

He's indigenous, so obviously his art has more value, to some. Blak is not his given name, it just helps make him more edgy. I wouldn't want it on my wall but it has provoked a response which is already a success.
This is the story of the picture:

    Title:Moby Dickens
    Size:3m x 2m
    Medium:Synthetic polymer on linen
    Edition:1
    Year:2022
    Provenance:Archibald Prize 2022
    Price:Sold

Influenced by one of my favourite Spiritually we all know that the ‘Mother’ (Earth) is angry at us. Renaissance painters ‘Masaccio’, I sought to find a biblical metaphor representative of the Lismore flooding disaster. I needed look no further than the quintessentially disgruntled resident artist - Karla Dickens. My renowned ‘flat bottomed clouds’ number 14 here, indicative of the number of days & nights the deluge lasted first time round. That’s DOUBLE what Noah encountered. The leakingbuckets here serve as a cryptic acknowledgement of the generic 50% takings of commercial galleries. We as artists slave on our product only to have the wealthy ‘slave master’ tax half of our earnings at end of the work day. The rising muddied waters also a symbol of the the artists position within the ‘art world’… trepidatious, unchartered and ominous. One would thus think that a devoutly religious Prime Minister might significantly take note of the communities desperate call for assistance.

Winner: The Archibald Prize 2022 - Blak Douglas

I erred. It rained on Noah for only 7 days, then the flood lasted for forty. Is that right? Or did it rain for forty?

That Archibald prize winner is just awful.

Methinks a bit of reverse racism at play.

The art doesn't matter, its what some gulible idiot will buy it for. Hurst and Emen, their "works" are worth multiple times their sale price. So if you have money, taste and quality has fook all to do with it and the shit that gets peddled to "money with no clue" gets easier as the years go by. But they are orange, tasteless, cashed up and happy.

Art is now a glorified bitcoin investment. Art is and always will be subjective. This allows many works of absolute shite to be classified as art and purchased by people with more of an eye to investing, rather than what can be actually considered art by a majority of the population.

Thanks. That is how I remembered it from my schooldays. I really should read the book.

Anyway, when Mr. Douglas wrote that the rain of 14 days in Australia was "DOUBLE what Noah encountered" he was writing complete tosh. I guess he skipped Bible class or maths, or both.

there is real art and there is garbage. what the garbage is for:
rich person orders "artist" to make art for 25000usd. after the creation, the rich person let's the art being valued by an "art-specialist", often a person out of his own circle. The piece of art is being revalued at, say, 40million usd. rich persons donates 40million piece of art to art galary and subtract this 40 million on his tax form.... That creates this sh[t.
