It's a bit hard to get, I've been finding (nope, haven't watched it yet). Bit strange for the highest grosser of 2021? That just makes me want to watch it more.

    If nothing better-

While only a few "battle soldiering scenes I include Kubrick's adaption of Thackeray's Barry Lyndon as one the greatest films ever and the most outstanding cinematography of its era esp the card playing scenes by candlelight. A technical masterpiece.

A great long watch like all of Kubrick's work, free green if not 100% satisfied, that excludes you deeks.
    Patton
    Ike countdown to D Day
Black Book (Dutch: Zwartboek) is a 2006 war drama thriller film co-written and directed by Paul Verhoeven

Among my revisit are comedies like Will Hay, Dads Army, Foyles War set in wartime Sussex where I recognise most of the villages and Cold War stuff like John Le Carre , Spy who came in from teh Cold,Quiller memorandum and more recent 'Noir feel" and Bridge of Spies, and N by N West which really overlap cold war into the espionage /thriller genre

The finest depiction of Nazi slme was Viscontis The Damned ( a portrait of the Krupp dynasty)which I seem to have deleted , if any has a torrent?

Not a movie but the series from the 70s The world at war narrated by Laurence Olivier was great, couldn't be made now as many of the interviewees are dead, amazing it was made at the time as the cost was incredibly high

Remember watching that with my dad as a young lad when it was first broadcast, it was a regular must watch. I was not allowed to see episode 20 (about the camps).

A definite must watch if never seen.

There also used to be one in Black and White, I can never find, called something like V for Victory it also has memorable music. Victory at Sea is also good.
Closest I can get is Gathering Storm.
