Based on a true story. Factual accounts are still easily available.
Mosquito Squadron.
And still freely available to watch on Youtube at our leisure.
Wow quite the list already but I am surprised no one has mentioned:
The Pacfic (Series)
Letters From Iwo Jima & Flags Of Our Fathers
The Siege Of Firebase Gloria (With Gunny and very B movie esq but some wonderful parts and quite brutal/ realistic)
The Beast (Another Russian tank movie)
Hope And Glory (A must watch)
We Were Soldiers (A bit too dramatic but to be honest that hold out kind of deserves it)
T-34.....tank movie. Just about to watch it.
A Walk in The Sun...
I think this is the one, but haven't seen for a long time. Follows a US platoon during the invasion of Italy. It portrays that feeling of hours of day-to-day monotony interspersed with periods of panic and the odd buddy or two falling by the wayside.
No one has mentioned Dunkirk, either.
And for a good reason.
They really need to make a proper Battle of Britain movie with lots of dogfights etc, with modern day cinematography, having Spitfires and German bombers, Stukas and Messi's-shits going at it full Lulu would be quality.
Master of the Air - the Band of Brother's sequel is currently in production and due to be released next year.
I'm sick of good guy/ bad guy war movies tbh. Kinda got sick of John Wayne & ilk saving the day when I was still a kid. This latest Chinese one is just another example- it's just that the chinks are the good guys. The best war movies are anti-war- they certainly don't glorify it.

The Tiger Tank looks like they have taken a T-34 and then applied cosmetic surgery to it to make it look like a Tiger

my favourite the witty gritty dramatization of Colditz, it later became a BBC series and a board game but the original with John Mills, Lionel Jeffres, and a youthful Brian Forbes whom I met and the great duo of Richard Wattis and Ian Carmichael in their prime doing a cabaret sketch with the classic lineS
