    The horror of war.

    COME AND SEE

"Flera is a sixteen years old boy, dug up carbine among torn of barbed wire, rusted machine-gun belts and shot helmets. Then he went to the forests to the partisans. At the very beginning of the film, Flera is a kid, but after going through the horror of the fascist punitive actions, he becomes an adult, frighteningly adult and becomes an old man. The war distorted once tender, childish features of the boy and turned them into wrinkles. The protagonist, driven by a sacred feeling of the fight against the Nazi invaders, in defiance of his mother goes to the partisan detachment. The circles of Hell of the fascist atrocities in Belarus are rushing before his eyes like the worst nightmare."

    Russian language with English subs.

I prefer war movies portrayed as horror rather than hero or action movies.

War is not something that should be glorified, more reflected upon as a failure of society...

    Liberation

"Yuri Ozerov’s epic historical film series Liberation consists of five films.

The first film, The Fire Bulge, tells about the heroic battle at the Kursk Bulge in summer 1943.

The second film, Breakthrough, is about the battle for the Dnieper River and the Soviet offensive operation in 1944.

The third film, Direction of the Main Blow is about Operation Bagration, which resulted in the complete liberation of Belarus from Nazi troops.

The fourth film is The Battle of Berlin. 1945, the last months of the war. These are the days when the fate of enslaved Europe is decided.

The fifth film, The Last Assault, is about the storming of the Reichstag, about the battle for every room, for every floor...

A new release on Netflix and based on a true story, worth a watch.

    The War Below

During World War I, a group of British miners are recruited to tunnel underneath no man's land and set bombs from below the German front, in hopes of breaking the deadly stalemate of the Battle of Messines.
