Grew up partying to their music, saw them numerous times in concert. Eddie could sling a guitar..... RIP

Theres a helluva band from the last 20 years or so 'upstairs' though... Eddie and Gary Moore on the axes, Neil Peart and Bonham on drums, John Entwisle covering the Bass, Rick Wright and Jon Lord on keyboards, Mercury Bowie and Amy belting them out.

I'm sure there are others.. Peter Green? and more, even more if you go further back

I just cant find a space for Jackson.... maybe song writing!?

    bsnub

One of the greatest guitarists to have lived.
sorry, but he was a poodle haired poser of dubious talent and limited ability, appealing mostly to damp pantied teenage girls and tone deaf headbanging male americans. i.e. the titties and beer crowd. e.g. bsnub.

that's not to say he wasn't a decent enough entertainer on the stadium rock circuit but he was mostly style over substance, pose over proficiency and attitude over ability.

as a guitarist he could churn out with apparent ease the usual predictable licks whilst adopting the hackneyed legs apart rockstar poses, but he was certainly not in the same class as say neil young, frank zappa, jeff beck, jerry garcia, prince, david gilmour, stevie ray vaughan, chuck berry or jimmy page.

As usual you have no idea what you are talking about. You clearly have never seen the way his fingers danced on a fret board. I will take Guitar World Magazine's opinion over that of an angry geriatric old fool. Their top five...

    Brian May
Jimi Hendrix (someone you didn't even mention)
    Jimmy Page
    Eddie Van Halen
    Eric Clapton

The 100 greatest guitarists of all time | Guitar World

Rolling stone had Eddie at #8 and Jimi Hendrix at #1.

100 Greatest Guitarists - Rolling Stone

I think I will take the opinions of experts over you Taxi. As I said before Eddie Van Halen is one of the greatest guitarists to have ever lived.

You are right Snubs. He clearly has no idea. In fairness though, Unless you played a bit of guitar or understand it, people like Taxexile will spew nonsense.

There are so many incredible talented guitarists with their own styles that made them great, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Peter Townsend, Ry Cooder, Joe Walsh...........

A shout out to Walter Becker of Steely Dan. Lost him three years ago.

^Not even close you old coffin dodger. You should stick with things you know. Most were not head bangers with VH. David Lee Roth was the showman, Eddie just reeled of his guitar. Have you ever been to a concert Taxexile?

Was he the best?... that's a matter of opinion. Was he one of the pioneers with an electrifying style...you bet.

His technical business English students also say he was hot stuff on a palanquin, as they chaired him around Soi Thaniya.

Exactly! Eddie was always cool with being in the background. DLR and Sammy Hagar were always the showmen as Eddie was in the back shredding killer riffs. Tax is an idiot.

actually jpr, i certainly know a geetar from a seetar and i have probably been to more rock concerts than you have had hot dinners, and boast alert, (true story) i was once on stage with jimi hendrix.

so you can take your poodle cut posers with their stuffed socks down their trouser leg and put them back in a box with slash, bon jovi and all the other two riff noodlers.
