It took Emmmylou Harris a long time to get over Gram Parson's if I remember right.
Dr Bob, no doubt you heard the story of Keith Richards introducing Gram Parson to heroin and Gram introducing Keith to country music - Honky Tonk Women- what a bum deal!

Kenny Rogers has a great voice. I'm not a big fan of the Nashville sound, preferring Bakersfield and alt-country, but this is one of my favourites, I love some of the lyrics

In the mirror I saw him
    And I closely watched him
I thought how he looked out of place
    He came to the woman
    Who sat there beside me
He had a strange look on his face
    The big hands were calloused
    He looked like a mountain
For a minute I thought I was dead

First LP I've ever bought, courtesy of Mum's money, was Helpby The Beatles and Act Naturally was the first track side 2 sung by Ringo.
Living in southern Ireland in the early 70s you could walk into a stick and sawdust pub full of farmers, fishermen and their wives and kids, cigarette smoke filling the air.
This would be on the jukebox. Somehow it went well with a pint of beer, wellington boots and a cigarette.

Have we had this one yet? Not sure how well it fits with the thread subject but it is Johnny Cash. He sings Nine Inch Nails tune Hurt. I love this video, I think it's one of the finest music videos ever made. It's filmed inside the House of Cash, a museum and his home. The decay in the closed museum, cracked records, faded photos reflects Johnny's own state of health at the time. June Carter Cash, country legend in her own right and from a family of country legends died three months after the video was made. Johnny died four months after her. The house and museum burned down in 2007 after renovators hired by the new owner, Bee Gee Barry Gibb applied a flammable preservative to the wood.
