The models for Grant Wood's American Gothic sitting front of the finished work.
The lady is actually Grant's sister, and the male was their dentist.
Steve McQueen and Tom Jones pillow cases 1960's.
Rung a bell as an old GF gave me these but with, perhaps Jessica Biel and.... ? (I guess some American singer/actress) around the early 2000's, I think something to do with Lynx/Axe sponsorship.
My ones were nicer.
Scarface Alf
Meet the forbidding Sergeant Alf Foster – a legend of the Manchester City Police’s ‘B’ Division.
Born in the Staffordshire town of Burslem in 1895, he served with the Grenadier Guards during the Great War.
He joined Manchester City Police on July 27, 1921 at the age of 25.
His joining record shows his previous occupation as a miner.
He is said to have struck fear into the villains of Collyhurst and Miles Platting with his formidable stature - weighing in at 20 stones – and imposing presence.
He was known locally as Scarface due to a deep wound across his left cheek. Many fanciful stories were told about how he had gained his scar – which no doubt helped build his reputation – in reality, he was wounded by shrapnel while fighting in the trenches.
He is said to have mastered the art of bringing down a fleeing miscreant with a well-aimed throw of his sergeants' stick.
Such was his reputation that parents would only have threaten an unruly child with a visit from Scarface and order was soon restored.
He retired from the force in November 1946 having dedicated his life to serving the public in the uniform of a soldier and then a police officer.
Sadly, he didn’t enjoy a long retirement and died just a year later but he was remembered by the public of Miles Platting and Collyhurst for many years to come

Joel Brian Pratley won the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2021 for his image Drought Story.(Supplied: National Portrait Gallery)
A Sydney-based photographer has accepted the National Photographic Portrait Prize from isolation in Redfern for an image taken in drought-affected western New South Wales last year.
Joel Pratley was in Forbes in central NSW in January 2020 helping to create a film to raise funds for those doing it tough on the land, as both drought and bushfires caused devastation across the country.
All at once, a huge dust storm swept over, obliterating the horizon.
"We were on the edge of Dave's property and what you could usually see was fence line in the distance, the cattle, a bit of vista, but all of that kind of swept over and [there was] this kind of uncertainty," Pratley said.
"We got Dave to walk off into the distance because his cattle were just out of frame.
"And I just feel like that was a really strong moment when he was striding off with that kind of stoicism."

That piqued my interest. The shop sign was an unusual name, Stonehenge Woollen Industry Ltd and those look like wool coats and hats.
Mr Google seemed to be my friend and told me this was a company with shops in Salisbury (explaining the name) and in Grafton Street, London. The business closed in 1959. The pic is not the Salisbury shop, I found an old pic. I have been to Grafton Street and I think it is still one way where you see that No Entry sign.
Grafton Street is in Mayfair close to Bond Street so it would fit with a fashion business. I am not completely convinced. This pic is from about 18 Grafton Street looking in the same direction as the b&w pic. Do those buildings on the right look the same?
^ shit I might black up and get amongst Bodi pussy...
