Easy prediction. Best Picture and Best Actor (Di Caprio) awards for The Revenant.
A lot of really good pictures this year.

I'll take in the Independent Spirit Film Awards instead.
A much more dedicated program towards the craft.
Real.

Baldrick, don't see the films. Just read the synopses. Don't tax yourself needlessly.
The Revenant was no doubt a good movie, and I think it will win.
But, I liked Spotlight, Bridge of Spies, and In The Heart of The Sea better.
Just my opinion. The Revenant was beautifully photographed, and the bear mauling scene was spectacular, but I thought it was too long and that the story line dragged in places.
The Revenant is the only one of those that I've seen. I hope the director gets a gong, I'm not even going to try to spell his name but apparently he'd be the first to win two in succession and I like that sort of thing plus it would be for two wildly disparate films (Birdman last year).Originally Posted by Davis Knowlton

So I should watch spotlight then.
Thanks.
Enjoyed 'Ex Machina' more than I expected to.
i watched the revenant, and although it a scarcely believable but watchable "boys own" type adventure, it has little depth and in my view does not deserve an oscar.
di caprio bleeds, grunts and snarls in true american macho man style, but does little else.
i think the hateful eight is a much better picture, and although the pace is sometimes slower, the superb acting and cracking dialogue of this paean to the spaghetti western make it a worthy contender for best film. some may find the violence over the top, but for me it just adds authenticity and comic effect to the characters.
Alicia Vikander won Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl. Excellent choice.
That had totally slipped my mind (was it even nominated?) but now that I think about it I'd agree.Originally Posted by taxexile
I've also just recalled that I actually did see Bridge of Spies. Clearly didn't make much of an impression on me for whatever reason.
I enjoyed hateful eight though it had had some truly cringeworthy scenes.
Most notably the scene where six horse Judy turns up at the haberdashery.
(And doubtful that a black woman would be running such an establishment then, also that it would be no well lit and spacious)
Total BS but fun. Not worthy of an oscar in my opinion.

Of this year's "big hits", it was my least favorite. Watchable, but, as you said, total BS.
I tried to watch a bunch of the chic flic, find yourself, weepy stuff this year in an effort (generally failed) to expand my horizons. Carol, The Room, etc. Couldn't force myself to watch the Danish 'girl' chicks with dicks movie. Of them, I made it through one or two, but only liked Brooklyn.
I liked it because of it's skilled direction by Steven Spielberg. So many beautifully designed shots and cinematic story telling.Originally Posted by AntRobertson

Alejandro G. Iñárritu wins Best Director for The Revenant. Good choice, up against several well directed films.
That's probably where I miss out. At home my wife and kids tend to dominate the TV and I never watch it unless there is sport on so generally I'll watch films on my laptop.Originally Posted by Humbert
Not exactly conducive to epic scope / cinematography.

Sort of!
Mark Rylance is a surprise winner in the Best Supporting Actor category. Christian Bale would have been my pick.
^Bridge of Spies, yes?
Spotlight for Best Picture. Di Caprio Best Actor.
