    Graphic Design

Maybe not the right forum, but it does involve art somewhat.

Anybody here with GD knowledge/experience? I know it's a big field, but need some general guidance.

My daughter has been spinning her wheels for yonks now, not getting traction. She's done all kinds of diploma courses; real estate, hotel management, CAD, interior decorating springs to mind. She's spent time in doing - is it a sort of internship - in a 5 star hotel - bailed out. She sold real estate. She paints. But mostly she just fucks around. Her health is a big problem so looking for something that may be done mostly from home.

What's the prospects/problems in GD? I know I can Google a loada stuff, but I'd like to discuss. Maybe someone here knows the general field.

Not being funny, but unless she has a passion for it, she's not going to do it, and the first few clients who ask for her work that is not delivered will pull the plug on that as well.

So, as she is perhaps not a fan of actually "doing" the skills she learnt, perhaps she should be a teacher.

    Or

Run a nursery - loadsadosh and never has to leave the house.

Is she creative? Does she show an interest in visual design? Does she have real talent? The world is full of art hobbyists who end getting knocked around and frustrated in the commercial arena. Is she living in Thailand?

too many people doing it well, and cheap.

not worth it unless you're supremely talented and have a dedicated love for it.

I found out the hard way.

Bloody hell, this is an old thread that died at birth, I thought.

That's what parents do isn't it. Worry forever.

Once she's actually doing something she does deliver, the problem is continuing after delivery. Interest ebbs and flows. Well mostly ebbs.

The teacher idea struck me as an excellent idea. Till I remembered she hates kids for some reason.

She's creative and interested in visual design, but I'm not so sure of the talent.

I've basically given up on motivating her.

She hasn't had the easiest of childhoods, but not the worst by a long chalk either.

She will eventually find something she is passionate about and be fine. My oldest son was just like your daughter. I tried to enroll him in Community College and he flunked out his first semester.

Then he worked at a Game Crazy store and became store manager at 19. He finally got tired of that and worked odd jobs like Circuit City, Radio Shack, etc. Drove a truck and taught commercial drivers until he got tired of being on the road.

He then got into computer programming and worked for an upcoming company for about two years to learn the ropes. He now has his own computer company writing mostly programs to make money off the stock market.

He is passionate about what he does and will be fine. It just takes awhile for some to find that one thing.
