CHAVORET: THE LAST EXECUTIONER is the story of the last person in Thailand whose job it was to execute by gun, a wild rock and roller who took a “respectable” job to support the family he loved devotedly, then constantly tried to the reconcile the good and bad karma that came from his decision. It is a story of life at its most beautiful and death at its most surreal.

Award-winning Anglo-Thai filmmaker Tom Waller (MINDFULNESS AND MURDER) will direct the story of Thailand’s last prison executioner, Chavoret Jaruboon, who passed away in May 2012. Vithaya Pansringarm (ONLY GOD FORGIVES), will play Chavoret as an older man, whilst a younger actor will be cast as the guitar playing youth who entertained GIs during the Vietnam War, before entering the Thai prison service.

CHAVORET: THE LAST EXECUIONER is being produced by Tom Waller and Michael Pritchett, with Somboon Vichaisre and Oscar Kahar serving as Associate Producers. The screenplay is being written by Thailand based ex-pat writer Don Linder, who interviewed the late Chavoret and sourced recollections of his life from his widowed wife, life-long friends and children. Shooting on the drama/bio-pic is expected to begin in early 2013.

The project will reunite Pansringarm with Waller, who were both nominated for Thai National Film awards (21st Subhanahongsa Awards) earlier this year for Best Actor and Best Director respectively on their previous collaboration, the Buddhist murder mystery MINDFULNESS AND MURDER, for which they were also nominated for co-writing the screenplay.



Waller will be attending the Asian Film Market 8-11th October 2012 along with delegates from the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand.

I read the book.
To my mind he dictated and was interviewed to get the work out. Not a piece of writing by him.

Still it was good as it showed how he wanted to be a musician but he had to get a job to survive, keep a wife and family, look after the parents.

It also dealt with the mechanics of killing and how different people faced their end.
If you can find it second hand read it.

For the gun nuts he used a 9mm sub machine gun in a rest. This weapon dated from the first days of their creation in the first world war/1920's and was used for something like 50+ years before replaced with a modern gun.

Read it as well. Wont even think about the movie with Thai overacting.
