    Cider - Underated & Underdrunked

I'll start with cider. In the UK this drink these days is pretty much associated with super-alcholic-strength-fizzy-pop drank by smelly people who argue with traffic-cones - However, cider can be a very nice, dare I say, sophisticated drink.....Goodness knows I'm not suggesting for one minute that pretty ladies in nice dresses would for one second risk soiling their petticoats with chemical-apple-aroma-dribble - But it is possible to purchase vintage varieties of cider that doesn't have the off-licence shop-assistant looking at one as though you may be a person who would take a poo in the beer-fridge when they are not lookng.

Today I am drinking Aspall vintage dry cider (7%)...I also took a poo in the fridge of the off-licence, but this had nothing to do with the cider...."Your Honour"
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

Magner's Irish cider is the one that is being advertised most these days....I can't offer an opinion as I haven't tried it, but it looks a bit fizzy to me. I prefer cider that it more apple-wine - Just the term fizzy-cider gives me heartburn....

Hats: I also feel that these are underated. Especially when worn unnecessarily.

Gone are the days when the cider used to come from an oaken half cask on the bar. That was the proper scrumpy - wouldn't sell any more than 2 half pints to you unless you were a regular. It was potent - and with a lethal hangover.

My cousins John and Andrew took over my uncle Henry's cider business when he died. My auntie Margie's still around.

Lovely stuff. We used to get it free.

It all tastes like vinegar to me. Cider on ones chips could be rather nice, though.

I have an old floppy green cricketers hat that I am rather fond of; it has no discernible shape to it, but then neither does my head.

    Underrated.

Danbos humour. Funniest poster on all forums since the days of The Moog in his prime. (the ghost of, is just that)
Thanks for always giving me a laugh in a place where I mainly find hostility.

Today I am sampling Thatcher's Vintage Somerset Cider (7.4%). A slight sparkle, but not much, just right...lingering taste of dry almost over-ripe apple. I have two 75cl bottles which only equates to one bottle of wine, so I'm not a drunk.....although that said, it is only 7 am and I am posting from a gutter.....wearing soiled underwear....and a floppy green cricketers hat.

A new cider has just came on the market here in Ireland, Copperberg pear cider, very nice and refreshing but a little too sweet to drink large quantities.A good drink to quench your thirst.
    I think it's Swedish.
