    visa on arrival

A mate of mine, whose from Poland,is coming to Thailand in December.According to the Thai website(UK),you get 15 days visa on arrival and you cant extend it.As he`s coming for 16 days,he`s a bit worried.Does he have to apply to the Thai embassy for a 1 month visa? I`ve overstayed my visa in the past(I dont do that anymore),and can understand why he`s worried....anyone got any idea`s/info...?

Personally i'd just overstay 1 day, as the first day is free anyway.

Yes, visa on arrival will only give him 15 days and remember they count the day of arrival so I expect immigration will see it as 17 days.

What's the problem with getting a proper visa.
Is it hassle in Poland ?

I think I paid 500Bht per day for about 5 or 6 days of overstay. They don't say much, just want some money and fill in some papers.

That's if you make it to the airport or immigration checkpoint.

If you get nabbed anywhere else then you are in trouble

Easy to say. Not unheard of to have a stop and search. Have to admit it never happened to me, but one person I trust told me that it had happened to him on Suk earlier this year.

^ Thong Lor coppers are notorious for performing stop and searches on Westerners in the hope they can extort some extra cash.
I have been stopped in the Sukhumvit area several times, but never anywhere else other than routine checks or when driving.

The other thing to consider is if they will issue him a visa on arrival.
The regulations say that you must show an outbound ticket within the 15 day period.
I have no idea if they actually check though

    ^Good point Theters.
The normal 30 day entry stamp is usually done very quick without any deeper checks.
A visa application (visa on arrival) may not be of same formality.
