    visa

I have been to LOS 3 times. One month each time, so All this is new to me. I live in the USA, and I plan to come over to Thailand around the
1st Sept. for 4 months. I hope to make a couple of side trips to the
PI, and Cambodia. What type of visa do I need and how soon shoul I send for it.

    Thanks,

    whittler

Multiple entry tourist visa if you plan to stay in Thailand longer than 30 days on multiple occasions.
Single entry tourist visa if just one such occasion.

No visa at all if none of your stays are over 30 days.
You will get a 30 day entry and stay permit each time you cross the border to Thailand so by carefully planning your trips to the neighbouring countries you could avoid needing a visa.

A tourist visa is valid for a 60 days stay and can be extended for 30 additional days here in Thailand.

I would go for the multiple entry if I were you.

It will give you more flexibility

Agreed. It just gives you a bit more leeway and peace of mind.

This is all good and correct advice.
If you get your visa in the US you have to use it inside of 90 days.
You can also get another 60 day tourist visa at a Royal Thai embassy.
Mind the dates of your visa as the fines for overstay have increased.
It's rather unwise to overstay one visa!

Yes , for a single entry tourist visa there is usually a window of 90 days from the day you pick it up until it gets void an unusable.
Multiple entry visa's has a bigger window..

    Didn't know that.
I'm off to KL next week to get my first one year non-imm visa. I'll be somewhat respectable.

Can you explain this a little bit Earl. I always get my one year visa right here in BKK at immigration on Soi Suan Plu, I really didnt know you could get a one year visa outside of BKK. I have had the one year visa priviledge for over 15 years.

Aging One - What you're getting is not a visa, it's an extension of stay. Visas cannot be issued or extended at Immigration. Visas are only issued at embassies and consulates abroad.

Yes I know that Buahdhai, but I have never heard of being issued a one year visa from abroad.

You are correct I have about 12 or 13 years of extensions of one year!!

It is not a one year visa, it is a mulltiply entry visa which allows you to enter for 60/90 days several times.
The visa is valid for one year but that is not the length of your permission to remain in LOS.
You still need to check in and out at the border every 90 days. If you do this on day 365 then you get another 3 months making your time here 15 months but with a border run every 90 days.
