How do you listen to your music?

I mostly use playlists on iTunes. I make up lists of tracks based around my mood (usually depressed) and let it go in the background. I also have 1 big playlist of everything which I play at random. I have loads of stuff I haven't got around to listening to and this is a good way of picking up gems.

I listen to the raddio quite a lot as well. For music it's always BBC Radio 6. Always a great selection of new and old.

It's the iPod for the gym. Here it's a playlist of fast indie and some dance. The dance can be a bit dodgy on the ski machine as I end up dancing....like a really drunk slalom skiier who has no sense of rhythm and who has put his ski boots on back to front.

I read before sleep and I have a CDs made up of various lo-fi selections which I nod off to.

Pretty much the same for me. All my music is in iTunes and I have both standard and "smart" playlists. In the car we do iPod through the vehicle's audio system. I make heavy use of the iPod when traveling (bus, plane, etc.) but never got used to having music when I work out.

Radio is pretty rare -- mainly in the car on short trips.

And, I do listen to the UBC audio channels now and then, but find the programming to be rather insipid.

Big challenge for me is breaking out of the habit of listening to the music of my youth. I'm never sure where to go to find new stuff that I'll enjoy.

    Beach Boys anyone?

I just use a walkman with Cd/s - does the job for me.

I have a decent set of headphones which makes all the difference - should get an i-pod together one day though.

iPods are super-convenient. I reckon the prices will drop through the floor soon as well - maybe not with Apple, but with something which does the job just as well.

I have an MP3 player with some random songs on that I like to listen to during the day and it replaces my Dad's choice of music in the car and such. I feel the world around me is an easier place with some headphones on.

At home I have millions of MP3's that I have placed into playlists to suit my mood. I have some good friends in the UK that I keep in conact with so they tell me about the newer music so I dont fall behind and become a victim of listening to <The Pussycat Dolls - Dont 'cha> for the hundredth time in one day.

It's my birthday next month and I'd love to own an ipod. Can you guys tell me the prices in LOS and any other information I should know please. I have heard a lot about them and took a look at my friends once and it looked fantastic.
    Welcome to the jungle!

^I bought mine in CM a year or so ago and it was the same price, if not more expensive, than the UK. I paid 13K for a 15Gb. Prices have gone down though and I'd expect you'd pay around 22K for a 60Gb. Definitely go for the most storage you can afford - your'e sure to fill it up. If you're planning to return to the UK you can claim VAT back at the airport (12%?). You will need a form form the retailer and don't forget to take the receipt to the airport - unlike some forgetful handsome fool I know.

Mine had an extended warranty and it was replaced in the UK no prob (the hard disk went).

The external docking stations with speakers give out a decent sound and they also charge the iPod. Non-Apple makes are about £40 - guess about the same in LOS.

I love mine more than I love my wooly scarf and believe me that's saying a lot.

I'm planning on going to the UK this year but I'm not certain yet however I have a friend coming this year to visit me for sure.

I wonder if I have a fault with it I would be able to replace it over in Thailand without getting a huge bill for it. I know that I'd love mine to bits if I got one and it would be worth it, I'll just think it over.

    Thankyou for the advice.

I have one of the first ipods to come out.

Download my music using limewire and normally listen to it through the ipod plugged into my home stereo. If going for long drives I use me itrip which allows the ipod to be able to be played on any fm channel.

I don't use the headphones, hate the cords - can't wait for a decent bluetooth headset.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

I think the iPod warranty is for one year. You can buy an extended warranty for two additional years. The problem with Apple is that you have to take their products to the repair center which is way down on Rama III in Bangkok and then go pick it up when it's fixed. My laptop has been there for ten days now. I'm not happy.

On the other hand, I have one of the original 5GB iPods which is still running great after four or five years. I did replace the battery, which was a bit of a chore, but I know get eight to ten hours of playing time depending on how often I change what I'm listening to.

I couldn't stand the iPod "ear buds". They didn't stay in my ears very well and hurt after a while. I'm continually looking for something better. I tried some over-the-ear noise canceling earphones for airline use, but they are rather bulky. I'm now using some cheap Sony over-the-head earbuds that kind of fit sideways in your ears. The sound is great, but I look very dorky when I wear them.

Who's your ISP? More and more of them are blocking the P2P ports.

If it's MaxNet4Home then they do block the P2P ports.

I'm not overly sure what type of maxnet it is.
It is trying to connect, but is failing.

Wouldn't I get some sort of message if it was blocked?
And what is their reason for not letting me download music.
    Fuking killjoys.

I thought you were getting a message saying you were behind a firewall. That's what Limewire would report if the port it wants to use is blocked.

The reason they don't want you to use peer-to-peer networks is that it consumes vast bandwidth. As usual, it's all about money.

The maxnet contract doesn't allow bittorent either, but haven't had any problems with that yet.

Yes, that's the message I was getting.

    Thanks for the info.
BTW, I'm paying 799 baht a month and assume it's maxnet for home.
    Might have to upgrade.

They must have only recently blocked it.

Yes, you have MaxNet4Home. They also say you can't use Voice Over IP, but that seems to work for me.

I guess they haven't been too consistent on what they block and where.

I use Windows Media Player, but my music collection is a bit limited at the moment after a HD failure. BitComet to the rescue!

In the car I usually have to suffer crappy Thai rock bands.
