No rentry permit needed going to Myanmar

    Hi all.

Yesterday I went to Myanmar with another couple from Chiang Rai. Ian is retired here and has a marriage VISA. He went across with us and not having a re-entry permit and not wishing to extinguish his marriage visa the lady at the desk gave him a VIP paper and kept his passport at the Thai pasport control office. He had a photo copy of his passport which he had to give, with the VIP paper,to the Myanmar passport control office.

The only cost was 100B to the Thai office and the 1B for a copy of his passport.

He was impressed with the xxx dvd's, viagra, cheap cigs (80b for marlboro lights)and the tazer for 500B. he was not impressed with learning what a chip feels like when surrounded by seagulls.... hehehe

It was weird there was no mention or sign of refugee's or of aid going into Myanmar on either side of the border.

    (edit for wrong city)

He was told at CM immigration that he HAD to have a re-entry permit.

The deputy of CR immigration told him to do this instead....

Unbelievable. Some of those Immigration officers are just stupid.
He only needs to get a re-entry if he wants to stay past 5pm
(and has the necessary paperwork to stay in Myanmar )

One officer in CR told my friend that farangs couldn't have a thai driving license.
    TIT.
