I have been watching this 'sport' on UBC the last few months. Talk about a free-for-all. This fighting includes all nationalities from the Brits to the Yanks. From the young cocks to the old roosters.

Problem with UFC is that they don't happen that often, once every couple of months, all repeats on tv these days.

I used to watch this show on satellite which was a mix of muay and normal boxing - can't remember what it was called - that was quite interesting in that it was all-action. I can not stand that nonsense where two meatheads with tatoos cuddle each other for two hours in a cage - bore off! Personally I'm a keen follower of the martial art of pleasedonthitme.

It seems similiar to K1 fighting, which is where they have martial artists of different styles fighting each other, from muay thai to chavflicks.

The toughest ufc fighter I saw on tape was Royce Gracie a Brazilian jujitsu artist. He was champion three times. I googled him and found this guy Kazushi Sakuraba a Japanese wrestler who beat not only Royce but his brothers too. On top of that back in the 50s Sakuraba's father, Mashiko, beat Royce's father, Helio. Great story.

Quite right, I still love UFC as once in a while some guy'll take a royal pummelling, but it isn't as good as theoldays(TM) when a half-starved pikey with one boxing glove would take on some monster sumo failure. That was entertainment!

Maybe it is just me and my fascist disrespect for the masses, but don't you get the feeling that if you (or say, bin Ladin) blew up one of these sports stadiums during a UFC or WWF match, the world would be better off - free up some real estate, reduce social benefit spending, etc.

I mean, from a purely macro-economical perspective, if would probably make good sense.......

And then Bush could blame it on the Iranians, and justify some more military action - and keep unemployment down at the same time.....

It is interesting to see how most matches end up on the floor, where most popular martial arts forms would be useless.....

The grappling (or whatever they call it) techniques are not very elegant, but seems rather effective - if you are limited to one opponent at a time, that is.....

Jeff Speakman kenpo karate expert and movie actor. Does he know any submission holds? Once Gracie cuts off the ring and gets ahold of him I think Jeff would have to tap out before his elbow, shoulder or knee got dislocated or he could get chocked out as well. Once Gracie is in close the punches or elbow blows to the head wouldn't have enough stroke to them.

love these martial arts style discussions, ave you all the bother its the fighter not the style.
when UFC started it was a platform for the gracies to market their brand of Brazilian jiu jitsu.
nobody knew about it and everyone got panned.
the modern fighter has to know a bit of everything
ground and stand up.

people say traditional arts are useless, in the cage yes but every fighter started with one of them

the average joe doesent know shit about BJJ or whatever so is still a worthwhile investment in time and effort

the sort of accomplished BJJ fighter wouldnt be the sort of chap you would want to disagree the price of spuds with
