Man killed by speeding bus
A motorcycle taxi driver died in Bangkok’s Thon Buri district after a speeding minibus crashed into him from behind, police said yesterday.
The body of Hau Saelim, 52, was found lying next to his motorbike at the mouth of soi Somdet Phrachao Taksin 10, with a route 82 minibus parked nearby. Both the driver and fare collector had fled the scene.
An investigation found that the minibus, which had been travelling from Samut Prakan’s Phra Pradaeng district to the Pahurat area of Bangkok, was racing other buses and hit Hua who was riding in the left lane. The collision forced him into a roadside telephone booth, causing fatal head injuries.
Police found a driver’s licence in the name of Parinya Chusri and said they would contact the bus company to establish if he had been driving at the time of the accident. Both the driver and fare collector could face the charge of causing death by reckless driving.
Meanwhile, another man was killed after being hit by a private bus in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district yesterday afternoon.
Police found the body of a man in his 40s lying near his bicycle at the Pridi intersection on Sukhumvit Road. He had suffered severe head injuries.
Wannee Kaewsai-in, the fare collector on the route 116 bus, told police that a passenger screamed that a man had been hit as the bus pulled away from a set of traffic lights. Driver Komwassana Srikamhaeng, 29, brought the vehicle to a halt but then fled the scene. Police are now hunting for him.
