Barred students may file criminal charges

Nakhon Si Thammarat _ Some computer business studies students at Srisophon College are considering filing criminal charges against teachers who allegedly detained them and kept them from attending a graduation ceremony.

The 12 students, led by Sunisa Charoenjit and Supawadee Saiwaree, have accused the teachers, who were not identified, of illegal detention. They say they were locked inside the college library.

The students were barred from attending the graduation ceremony on Sept 23 after their bachelor's degrees were rejected.

They were ordered to take extra courses due to the substandard curriculum at their college.

Two days later, they filed a complaint with police, demanding the privately-run college pay their tuition fees and other expenses of 300,000 baht each during their additional study.

Ms Sunisa said yesterday she and her classmates had also asked the Lawyers Council to sue the college on their behalf for the 300,000 baht for tuition fees and expenses.

The college barred the students from the graduation ceremony after it was notified by the Office of National Education Standards and Quality Assessment that the sub-committee assessing the education standards of private colleges had decided not to accredit its curriculum in the field of computer business studies.
The office sent a letter to inform the college of its decision three days before the graduation ceremony.
